    Quilting design HELP!!

I have completed my daughters wedding quilt top. I have the backing. It is all black and white. The top is made of 5-1/2" squares that are set to make a large diamond in the middle. Here is my problem, normally I would just do a meandering quilt stitch, but this time I would like to do something a little nicer. I will be quilting on my home machine, either the B750qe or my 830LE. Does anyone have any ideas what quilt pattern may look nice and is fairly easy to mark & quilt? I don't have any hindsight much less forsight! LOL I am a great copy artist.

Thank you so much for any help!!

Could you get a picture of it and post it here for us to see. Alternatively get a photo of it and start scribbling on it either using a computer art program or plain old pencil & paper.

Ok, so I feel stupid now!!! haha. So here is the quilt before I got the center line sews and the borders on. The borders are tone on tone black 6". Hope I did this right.

            First thoughts,
1: simple cross hatching through the middles of the squares. (can be done with a walking foot)
2: concentric circles. (can be done with a walking foot)
3: something like a 'wine glass' pattern using the intersections of the squares to keep you on track. (fmq or possibly walking foot)
4: a large feather wreath or twisted rope circle between the centre black square 7 the next line of solid black triangles (probably fmq for feathers. Either would probably need to be custom drawn to fit the space.)

Other suggestions - try googling images of whole cloth quilts, - personally I would check out North Country or Welsh medallion style, but then I am in UK and I like them. but this does make me think of a medallion style layout.

Hopefully others will come along with alternative suggestions.

PS I am not too comfortable with my fmq yet, hence my walking foot suggestions.

              Nice Sharon!

I'd lean towards stitch in the ditch or cross hatching. Feathers or cables in the border.

Like Rosemary I'm not comfortable with FMQ either.

Good ideas. FMQ'g does not bother me in the least. And now with the Pinmoor's pinning out and pinning tightly has never been so darn easy!!! I will never go back to safety pins......ever I dreaded (or should say my fingers did the dreading) the safety pins. I would be sore for days after pinning and unpinning. I think the one thing that is bothering me is that the back which is a solid piece of tone on tone black will show all the nice quilting and the front is so busy it won't. It almost feels from a quilting standpoint that I sewed this quilt backwards!! LOL

I do like the idea of playing with a copied picture and trying different things on it. Maybe a triple line diagonal crosshatching through the squares emphasizing the diamond shape pattern?

Agree re the triple line crosshatching.

Thanks for mentioning Pinmoor's I'd forgotten about them.

So you will have a reversible quilt, one side pieced the other a wholecloth. Sounds like a win-win situation - and just the sort of thing I do

Sounds as if your design ideas are starting to germinate
