    Cindy Needham class

Rita, when I was looking at Craftsy, I noticed that your quilting sampler from Cindy Needham's machine quilting class was first up! It was beautifully done and I liked the variegated thread. Did you get a lot out of her class? The samples that people posted look so wonderful. It looks like a lot of stencils, which I don't use at this point.

I'm afraid to admit how many Craftsy classes I've signed up for.... Quilting and sewing mostly. Most of them have been very good.

How to know if you are a lounge lizard. Either you start a new thread with a question for a specific person, or you are the person named in that question. Perhaps another way to tell if you are said creature is to respond to the first post on a thread with an off-topic comment. Oops! That would be me!

      Hi Kathy,
Not Rita, obviously, but I have Cindy's class. IMHO it is one of the top tier classes on the Craftsy platform. It is packed with information. Yes, she uses a lot of stencils, but in amazing ways and shows easy ways to mark. After that, her work was on display at the Sisters Quilt Show in Oregon last summer because she was teaching there. I had heart palpitations when I saw it...just beautiful. And, she uses a domestic sewing machine.

having just looked through the projects on Craftsy to find Rita's quilt, an observation...the scribble stitching around the pearls with the varietaged thread looks really cool!

I have Cindy Needham's class to and go back to again and again--it is packed with good reference information and have enjoyed watching it over and over again. One of my sisters has the class as well and believes it's probably the best class she's purchased. I would not hesitate to recommend it. And don't forget, if it is not what you thought it would be, you can get a refund if requested within 30 days or trade it for another class.

Hi Kathy, sorry I didn't make it onto the forum at all yesterday so I have only seen this now. I thought Cindy's class was really excellent and as others have said she teaches you how to use stencils in a more creative way. Practically, she shows you how to go about creating certain motifs (without templates) and how to customize templates to your needs. It also got me using other things as templates for stitching. My little sample was not done with a stencil at all because I only have 3 in my impressive and vast collection! Not something we can get here very much. What I did for the sample was to draw out a basic grid, on point, and then I used one of those stationers circle templates to create the corner circles. The aurifil variegated thread worked well for it. Thanks for the compliments.

Well, I had to go all the way to the end to see Rita's lovely work. I also saw some of Nancy's work. You are correct Lois, you know you are a lounge lizard when you only have one name and know who it is. I haven't done this class yet--though I signed up for it a long time ago. Maybe, I will use my Christmas break to check it out.

Oh dear, I am laughing to myself about posting to "rita". Of course we all knew who she was.......

I appreciated all the positive comments about Cindy's class. Next time they have a sale, which is pretty often, i will sign up for that one. I am also going to take a sewing class from Pam Howard on fitting jackets. I took her shirt class and she is such a patient, thorough teacher!

I'm getting near the end of the UFO's from the back of the closet and am eager to start some new things. i counted up, I've finished 26 quilts since January 2012. Of those, probably more than half were UFO's or even more forgotten than that. The two that are left are in progress but slow progress

Anyway, thanks all for the info on the class.

                Happy quilting!
                Kathy

Oh goodness, no way! I had some works in progress at the beginning of 2012, like the Ruffled Roses BOM, and another big quilt that needed an applique border finished. There were a few other UFO's that I wanted to get to. Some new stuff came my way (The Reels Exchange, a pineapple quilt). A couple of baby quilts. Then I pulled the stuff off the shelves that I thought I "should" get to. Then, I redid the flooring in my quilt studio (ok, sewing room!). That meant everything had to come out of there and I found a few other things, plus some blocks from exchanges, things I had abandoned. Most of these have been pretty small but they are done, except for two projects. I will try and gather some photos together to post. These all were weighing on me, I feel much better for having plowed through them.

I remember reading the posts about what we'll finish in 2013, wondering if I could make any progress. Guess I did!

I'm off work tomorrow, maybe I can pull together some pics. I will try to combine pics so it's not millions of posts, since we can only put 3 pictures in one post, right?
