I don't know if i will be able to make the border because the author says you have to be a very skilled quilter or very brave (of which i am neither) that's why i was hoping there might be templates or a pattern with more detailed instructions, but thanks again

            Jenny,

First of all, there were templates there--you have to scroll down the page and click on the border pdf link.

Please don't allow that comment to intimidate you, it's not that difficult to sew. I suppose the issues are that you will be working with bias edges and curves, which can be resolved by heavily starching your fabrics orby using freezer paper templates. You can only learn and improve your quilting skills if you are willing to try new things. I'd suggest practicing this or any new technique on a sample BEFORE adding it to your quilt. Even for simple pieced blocks, I always make a sample using scrap fabrics to avoid making a mistake on my "good fabric". The sample orphan blocks can later be used in other projects.

By the way, I'm so glad that you asked the question because now I plan to try making this border. I'll look around to see if I can find some better instructions and will let you know. I found these in my very first search--it took less than a minute. One trick I use in searching is to first search for images--it's easier to find specifically what you are seeking.

              thanks Nancy
and i will give it a go because it will be a perfect border for my quilt and i found the templates thanks again. I want to make the border pieced so it won't be appliqued to a background which will make it a bit more difficult, but i have seen a photo of a quilt done just like this from the 30's so i know it is doable

Nancy, good idea about searching images first! sometimes the word descriptors give you lots of nonquilt things!

I usually search picture quite a lot first but it's not country specific. We end up with a lot of US stuff rather than UK but looking at the address can help most of the time.

While you're searching for what you are looking for, you don't half see a lot of other interesting things!! You can end up on a whopping journey through cyber space!! [/u]

I have a picture of a baby quilt in my profile that has fans around the edges. It really wasn't that bad. I used Sharon schamber's method for binding and it worked great. That was my first time with a scalloped edge and really love the look. don't be afraid, just take your time and it will be okay.

I also found this Dresden Plate border in a book I own titled "Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns". The instructions provide the templates and just shows to sew them together alternately in a row. There are no special instructions to indicate that this is difficult to do. After more thought, I think the challenge may be in binding the curved border, instead of sewing the border itself.

Nancy thanks for the heads up about image search, this helped a lot. i found images of 2 quilts that will help with this border they also show the corners of the quilts which i needed to see how this border goes together. thanks all for the encouragement i am definitely going to make this i have already started the fancy dresden plates for the quilt.
