    Itchin' to be stitchin'!

I've decided I can't wait until November to get started on the quilting! I'm taking a risk that Sue will have a wonderful quilting plan that I'll miss, but c'est la vie! My plan is to do crosshatching in the borders and appliqué blocks, and something curvy in the NY beauty blocks. I'm stuck about the paper-pieced borders, though. I know I'll SID all of the piecing, but I can't decide if they need more quilting than that... Any opinions on the subject would be welcome! :?

Good for you, Connie! If you check on Pinterest and do a search for New York Beauty Quilts, you may find something that makes your heart sing!

I'm just now going to attempt to put 2013 together. I admit, I am terrible at reading some quilting directions, especially when I see the words that appear opposite of what the pictures show :-( . Does it really matter whether or not we sew the rows first or the columns first?

Additionally, how did everyone deal with the pressing of the seams? I'm looking for heads up of any problems I'll encounter.

A row a day, I'll be done in two weeks :-)

Susan, I don't think it matters whether you do rows or columns first, as long as you get it all together!
I found that the seams wanted to go away from the paper-pieced sashing strips, so that's where I pressed mine.
Good luck and enjoy the process!

I did mine in 4 sections so that I didn't end up with anything really long until I was putting the 4 quarters together. I pressed the same way as Margo. Good luck with it and I look forward to seeing the photo.

                  Susan,
I don't think it matters wether you sew by colums or by rows... I did mine by rows, but didn't press like it was mentionned.
Like Margo, my seams wanted to go away from the pieced sashing, so there they went... I didn't fight. For the other rows, I pressed in the opposite direction than the row next to it, so that the seams would "nest". I didn't quite do it like Sue was photographed - I don't llike to "carry" everything to the ironing board.
My main concern was to make all the points "match" to the corners... I had to undo and do until It was "almost there" in some instance.
I don't have a picture with the borders sewn, but I have this one:

Worked on the quilting (on small samples)... will prepare a big sandwich this week-end!

                      I lOVE your colors!

Thanks for the hints. I actually just did the first column and was amazed at how easy the going is so far. I'm using the Liquid Glue Stick trick for pinning which is working well.

I'll know to be patient when it sounds like a shoe at the wall may come naturally!
