Using Accuquilt to cut the big circle in month 8
Here is my trick for using accuquilt for that big circle in the flower and still use fusible only on the edge.
I used the "Rose of Sharon #2" die, and the circle is 1 1/2 inch in diameter, which is just a tiny bit smaller than the flower's circle (1/16th around).
But that's fine for me!
Using a sharpie marker, I marked the foam where a 2 1/4 square would be, centered on that circle:
I then traced 4 squares measuring 2 1/4 inches on the fusible web, and marked the center with straight lines across, and I traced the circle using that famous Template:
I cut out the "inner" circle, leaving enough just in case the fabric would shift:

I think there are many of us in that boat! That quilt is a lot of work, lots of détails... But so much fun and rewarding.Originally posted by suehenyonAndrée, I'm so glad you are only on month four, it means I have company! Aren't you at the New England Quilt Festival this week?
I wish I was at another festival! I'm not on vacation this week...
I was at the Vermont Quilt Festival at the end of June.

Andree, what a great technique! Thanks so much for sharing it! I have an Accuquilt GO cutter that I have yet to remove from the box since I brought it home (I'm dangerous when I go to a quilt show without adult supervision!). Circles really are the most difficult shape to cut smoothly, and you have definitely inspired me to get out my cutter and start playing with it.

Connie, if you ever get to Omaha, visit Accuquilt. The girls there are terrific. They will take you to their studio and show you how to use the Go or Studio cutters. You will see some beautiful quilts on display and really enjoy your visit. I have been there 3 times and am planning on going again in 2 weeks. I need to pick up a die I ordered on the last visit. Sometimes they have a bin with discounted dies in it for $10. each. There were none on the last visit, but I still got a great discount on the ones I ordered.

I'm working on a block for a friend's daughter's going-to-college quilt and decided to try Misty Fuse on the back of a fabric before I cut the circles with my Accuquilt.
I used Perfect Sew, a liquid fabric stabilizer, on the background fabric, because it has a heavy embroidery from Urban Threads in the middle (Steampunk Butterfly). I want the stabilizer to wash out completely, and the fabric wash-away stablizers didn't cut the mustard. The combination is working to get great stitching. I have to finish the outline stitching on the appliques so I can wash it out & get feel for the final hand of the fabric.
