    Making 3/8 binding

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share my experience with making the 3/8 inch binding. I wanted to use the 3/8 size since I am doing the blanket stitch approach and felt the heavier stems looked better with the heavier looking leaves. I had already cut my strips 1 inch during previous month and didn't want to recut them. I was looking for a 3/8 inch clover binding maker and found this technique online. The girl that posted about it said it was from a 50's sewing book. It worked great for me. I probably had to fiddle with the strip a little more than if using a binding tool, but I got to use my 1 inch strips as is and didn't have to get my fingers near the iron. Basically I put a large needle in my ironing board cover to approximate a 3/8 inch opening. I ironed the two sides about 2 inches in to start and and just pulled the binding through and ironed it as I went. I made all binding quickly and wrapped it around a card to save for future months.

Thanks Margo for all your tips. I took this BOM to learn raw edge applique but have learned so much more. I now own a add a quarter ruler!
I had never done paper piecing before and didn't try it to month 3. What a great technique -- I never could have made the curved arcs without it. I also liked learning about freezer paper templates and turned applique which I will try in future.

I hadn't posted in show and tell since before I am using the kit, but I will post my progress now to show I am using the hints I have learned and they even work for an inexperienced quilter.
    Thanks again Winnie
