Hey Margo, are you going to work out the border for the four-block version? It would be just lovely if you do.Originally posted by MargoMarilyn, I am thinking about making a wall size version by just making four "blocks" instead of nine. It will be something like this:

I will just have to play around with the placement of the border applique, but it should work out just fine.
I think there are some members who are thinking about making the whole quilt but reducing the scale of the pieces. Not sure how to do that.

On my 4 block wall quilt I will audition one flower pot in the center and leave the other background areas empty for space to add some awesome quilting. If I don't like the way it looks, I'll leave it off too.
For the border appliques, it shouldn't be hard to rearrange the applique to fit. Because each border is a different design, I will just run them off the edges like the full size quilt does. The only thing I know I will keep is the two birds in the top border because Sue and Pat said that the birds represent them, so I want to keep that element. Still thinking about the date at the top and the pot at the bottom. I'll just have to play with it, but there is plenty of time!! :wink:

A few years back when Sue was the guest, there was a mini-project based on her technique. I made that little project and really enjoyed the process. Thanks to TQS techniques over the years, I think I could actually get this quilt completed, being newly retired helps, too. So, I just bit the bullet and bought the whole kit. I already have it, it's beautiful and I don't have to stress about color selection.
I started Stars for a New Day and life happened in the middle. I have enough done for a wall-sized quilt, but need to get it quilted and bound.
I have enough blocks done of Hugs and Kisses, but it needs a border and I don't know if I can get into that scalloped section. That one may remain a UFO while it ferments a bit more. (age makes it better, right?
)
I'm looking forward to this and really intend to finish. I'm not great at completing full-sized quilts and feel like I need to prove to myself that I can do it!

My Hugs and Kisses (all 12) became table runners. Three to a runner. And then gifts to family members. That year I did another flower related BOM and did twelve small table toppers most of which went out as door prizes at our TX retirement park quilt show. I do not make many big quilts any more so love when projects can be reduced to something manageble. It is all in enjoying the journey. No one gets to take their quilts (or money) to heaven. Hugs, Ann

What a great idea. I have been tossing up whether to make this quilt or not, and a smaller version might be just the thing. I did this year's BOM and so loved the process, but large quilts are a huge time commitment - and that's not even taking into account the quilting I have yet to start! I like to quilt my own quilts, so they feel like they really are MY quilts, but I am still not very proficient at it.
