Thanks for the congratulations! I checked out the show yesterday. There were only 5 entries in the applique category, and interestingly, there was no first place awarded! I am going to call to see what the deal is with this!

My 2008 BOM is finished and posted. It finished at 54" x 69" with 13" finished blocks (pattern decreased to 80%) and 3" sashing. It's been through the wash several times and received a couple of haircuts. If I had it to do over there's a few things I would have done differently but I'm not telling. I showed it at this month's quilt guild meeting and one of the members said that's the only rag quilt she's ever liked and the owner of the LQS asked me to teach a class. I've already found a similar style block in EQ5 and modified it slightly for the class and will make it in fall colors. Then they will have the option after they learn the technique to do this quilt as a BOM. Another project to add to my never ending list. When I get back from my upcoming trip I will be busy, busy, busy!

Annis, it is a great quilt! I agree, it is the best rag quilt that I have seen!

Love it!! I have never seen a rag quilt with this kind of detail! I also don't know that I've seen a quilt-as-you-go with sashing & cornerstones, did you make all of that separately? I can imagine they wouldn't be difficult, but that's a lot of pieces...well worth the effort for a truly unique take on the BOM.

Yes, the sashing and cornerstones were all made separately. And except for the quilting pattern I chose for the sashing they were easy to do.

Yesterday I finished my 2008 BOM because we have our 5th annual local quilt show coming Sept. 5th! The girls in our local quilt club told me last night at our monthly meeting that I should had entered it in our State Quilt show held last month and would have been a blue ribbon. I think they are just too nice!!! But I love the quilt and I did so much longarming on it that it feels like a tapestry.
                          Will post pictures soon.

                            Good morning -
I finished quilting my 2008 Block of the Month in time for our county fair here in Blue Earth - it received Grand Champion and the Sweepstakes Award - so it will head to the Minnesota State Fair next week - as soon as our local EXPO is finished this weekend - yikes! A photo is posted under my profile - is there another place it should be?
                            Best wishes,
                            Mike

Congratulation Mike!!!! Loved what I could see of the quilting on the borders. What did you do on the inside of the applique blocks?

How fun that you and Ritzy are both Grand Champions with Sue's 2008 BOM, and they are so completely different looking.

Good luck in winning more awards at the next fair!!!

Your quilt is wonderful, Mike! Congratulations on winning. I'm still hoping to finish mine. Maybe I should work instead of hope. Might be a bit more successful. Good for you though!! Karen
