I agree 6 1/2" is more than enough. I made my triangles 2 1/8" instead of 2" and I had plenty of fabric using 6 1/2" squares.

Finally getting to start working on my pinwheels. Getting ready to start sewing on Thursday at my small Guild workshop. I hope to get quite a few pinwheels done then.

I posted my March BOM in the Show and Tell area. My finished March is 39 inches. I am going to wait for April for the floaters. I didn't need to add a floater between the February and the March the Pinwheels fit the outside perfectly.

My March BOM is posted in Show and Tell. It finished at 51" and was a lot of work! I'm looking forward to the star blocks next month.

I'd like opinions on using a "wood iron" (see the show & tell "what where & why entries) to press all the seams each month. It sure could save a lot of electricity, but has anyone had a BaD experience with this technique? Clover has a plastic "finger presser". I'm not anxious to spend $7.00 shipping on a $2.00 item. I can purchase clover products down the street.

I often use my wooden iron when sitting at the machine, but for me it is an additional tool....not a replacement. You have to be careful with it that you don't stretch your fabric, but use it just like a hot dry iron....PRESS...NOT PUSH AND SLIDE.

For each of the next 6 months Sue gives instructions for four 6" x 6" (finished size) sampler blocks and we will also make 8 sawtooth stars every month. She's tried to break it down so that we don't have to do mountains of one block at a time, and for this kind of medallion quilt this just seemed the best way to present it.
Her directions are very explicit for anyone who purchased the fabrics in the kit from TQS, and I will be adding my tutorial showing how I worked with my scrappy palette.
It's not really difficult, but as you can imagine, accuracy counts!
                    WE CAN DO THIS!

Thanks Margo. The blocks appear to be larger than 6 inch. They are very detailed for a 6 inch block. Are most of them paper pieced?

Sue gives us foundations to paper piece all of the HST units, and directions for how many plain squares to use. We are only dealing with squares and HST units. Nothing complicated, but it is important to remember all of the tips about accuracy and to follow the layout photos!!!
Of course, if you don't want to make these 6" blocks. You are more than welcome to substitute any 6" (finished size) block of your choice.

Just keep telling yourself that it's JUST A 6" SQUARE! Piece of cake! WE CAN DO THIS!

Putting them on point really gives you more bang for your buck, if you know what I mean. Anyone can make a 6 inch square. Right?

RIGHT!! And the closer they are to being square, and the right size will make them easier to assemble with the setting triangles!

Well, finally got my pinwheels sewn on.Everything was going so well until it was time to sew those darn pinwheels on.dont know what the problem was but my quilt was misbehaving and I was having such a hard time making them fit.Needless to say I'm not speaking to it right now and would like to throw it out the window. It finally fit together and finished at 41 but I am so frustrated and very glad its done.Hope next month will be better
