NOPE, I put mine together by laying them out the way they were suppose to go (using one that was already sewn) and then put a dot of glue so I would sew the right sides together. Only had to take out a few.

Hi All -- I followed Margo's tutorial and pined pairs together so that I didn't have to unsew, and it worked very well. I just hung my BOM for DH to take a pix and said to leave it on the wall, he thought it was pretty as it is. That was nice. I too am going to get the stars completed due to worry about enough fabric.

Enjoying the 2009 BOM ride. MKNavy and I are going to a TQS taping on Saturday. Should be fun.

I feel like I've been cutting out tiny pieces of cloth all weekend. And nothing is sewn. But all my pinwheels are cut out and hand pressed and ready to be put together.

I've been looking at the colors of my pinwheels and the colors everyone else has used and come to the conclusion that I don't want my pinwheels to be of mixed color. As I look at them, I lose the pinwheel image. They become random triangles to my perception. So I think my pinwheels will at least be all the same colors.

It's also time to consolidate my color choices. My sawtooth stars will be out of the same 18 fabric colors (4 stars for each color will give me the 72 stars I need) and I should still have enough of each fabric to give me the flying geese I'll need. And I'll use these same color groups for my larger stars as well.

I'm going for a seriously scrappy look...using as many different fabrics in as many different combinations as I can. ellencelest...You are right about losing the pinwheel effect. I'm still likin' it though. I'm afraid in a month or so it's gonna outgrow the design wall in my itty studio!

I agree, If I'm going to spend all that effort to make my pinwheels match, I want the little suckers to show!

I am also using some of the 1/2 square triangles to make Flying Geese blocks to use as a filler rather than all Pinwheels. I started piecing one border today and I like it very much so far. EAch corner will have a 2 flying geese units sewed together and then there will be 2 flying geese units in each row. All the same fabric - not scrappy. Will post a picture when I'm done but I'm just back from Fl for a week and have only just started to put my blocks together.

I finished one border and took a picture of it. It may be a few days before I get back to it.

I want my pinwheels to show so I used all the same fabric in each pinwheel block. On my 10 block row I used 2 flying geese units then 2 pinwheel blocks 2 flying geese, 2 pinwheel, 2 fg. I had no math to figure out, I used the 1/2 square triangles to make the flying geese units. You need 4 for the pinwheels, so I just turned them around to make the Flying Geese.

              see-quilts/show-and-tell-quilts/

And I do have to tell you, this was not my idea completely, I was going to use a plain block to separate the units, the flying geese was a quilt I saw on Monday in the Quilt Gallery that inspired me.

This one notice how she has flying gees and pinwheels together.

              community/

I see that one of the outer borders is all flying geese, what to take a bet and see of some of the Pinwheels pop up in that border?? Maybe something else, Ahhh, we have a ways to go before that one.

Yeah it's done and still using only fabric from my stash. Think i am going someway to achieving the scrappy look I want.

I'm a little late getting started on the pinwheels, but I started cutting out my fabric and noticed a discrepancy. Maybe it's already been addressed, but I can't find it. And maybe it isn't important. I haven't begun yet to cut out my other fabric. The first page says to cut out 18 7" (7 x 7) squares of the background fabric which I did. However on the second page, it says they should be 7 1/2" squares. Is this going to be a problem?

Hi Mom G...I just checked the first and second pages for the March pinwheels on site and it says cut 18 71/2" background squares. You can check it out by going to the BOM on the top purple line of the home page. I hope this helps. Nan

It is not going to be a problem--just allowing extra for lining up.

Ritzy's right...it's just a 1/4" extra around the PP templates. It was a discrepancy that we caught, but apparently the PDF file wasn't changed before it was first posted. It's been updated now.

I'm with Keith. After whipping up several pinwheels, then laying them out, I noticed that some were going backwards. You really have to pay attention to their direction. It truly doesn't matter which direction they go, but they have to be consistent. Happy sewing!

Okay...I NEED HELP!!! I finished my pinwheels, got my floating border on everything measures perfectly...and looked closely at my beautiful quilt and realized three of the four corner blocks of my 4 patches are sewn in "upside down", that is to say the darks are toward the outside corner. Don't know how I managed that, don't know why I never noticed it until now. Suggestions? Would you tear everything out or just chalk it up to experience and tell people I meant it to be that way??? UGH
