Lynn, I can see the sparkle also, love your colors, we shouldn't worry about the white beads not showing up so obvious, since the real baby's breath flowers aren't showy either, they'are just very subtle. Heidi

I have posted my Aug. block. I picked out the fabrics and then wondered what to do about the center of the vase. I looked through my grandmother's hankies (she died in '66) and found this wonderful piece. It fit perfectly and was the same colors as I had picked out! I am very excited about this. As I was sewing, I had an idea. I have my signature block with the music fabric in the tulips and now I have a signature block of my maternal grandmother. So I called my mother and told her I want something of 'her' to put in one of the last 4 blocks. This quilt has evolved to be a very important quilt to me-I had no idea that this could have happened. So, now I look forward to what my mother can come up with, she doesn't sew, so no special material laying around.....
So, thank you, Sue Garmen for the wonderful pattern.
And thanks to Bridget for the idea of stem stitching the baby's breath. I really like the look of it.

What a wonderful idea! I love your blocks, too. I'm doing a "Grandma's Kitchen" BOM and I used one of my grandmother's hankies in the pocket of the apron block. It just makes a quilt more special.

Terri, your fabric choices are so soft and beautiful. This block is lovely. And I love the special spin you are doing with it.

Terri, LOVE your vase!!!! How wonderful to be able to use your grandma's hanky.

That is a great idea to use the hankie. The block is beautiful. I am going to look at some small table scarves that have bad places that mom embroideried and see if there is anything I can use.

Musical Stitches Maybe your Mom has some old jewelry that she loved but never wears anymore that you could use the beads. Or a chain from a necklace that was special could become stems. I collect old jewelry and make special pictures for myself and family and friends. When I can get jewelry that belonged to that person or maybe the mother or grandmother, the picture is even more special. I had hankies from my mother grandmother and greatgrandmother and jewelry from a great great grandmother. Since my cousins had very little in the way of keepsakes from this mutual great great grandmother and great grandmother, I made angels using the hankies as the dresses, old lace as the wings, jewelry (small pins) at the necklines and parts of an old pearl necklace for the halos. I had enough so that both of my children and two cousins and their children each will have one. It was the hit of the trip to California and Washington/Oregon that year. I believe that family treasures shared are a way to keep your family close even when you are not able to see each other very often. Hope this gives you (or anyone else) some ideas. I also teach this in our park almost every year and it is one of my most popular classes. Ann

Terry, great idea! I really like your soft colors.

While looking at yours I realized I missed one whole branch of BB. Guess I can add it when I add my larger beads! ha

I've just finally looked at more of the August blocks that have been posted. Teri, your hankie center was a perfect match and such a sentimental addition to your block. Marge and Margo, I love the center of your vases, beautiful choices.
