Stacked is when the seams are going in the same direction and are on top of each other. Nestled is when they are going in opposite directions. The lattice blocks were supposed to be pieced with the seams going away from the center. Annis, did you still use the foundation papers? If so, I assume that instead of starting with the center fabric, you started with one of the triangles so that both seams are pressed to the same side. Also, if you have perfectly sewn a stacked seam and then pressed it OPEN, it is still perfect. If you take that same seam and press both seam allowences to one side, many times it is no longer perfect, just because of the bulk on one side. I wish I had just pressed ALL seams open when assembling the paper pieced units, not just the seam that joins the Xs.
I want to thank everyone for their nice comments on my quilt! They are appreciated! And, for those of you who are concerned that I might tone it down too much with the next border, don't worry! There will still be plenty of color! Lavenders, purples, magentas, greens, and some mini vases in the corner units of the same fabric as the center block vase!

Beautiful work Dawn! Annis: thank you for such clear pics and instructions about how you changed it up. I will probably paper-piece, if I ever get to this step and re-number the foundations to start with a background triangle instead of the center strip.

If you want to compare the way that Annis did hers (nestled) to the way that Margo and I did ours (stacked), there is an excellent picture of Margo's on page one of this forum. The only difference is that Annis has pressed ONE of her color/white seams into the color bar. That way they can nestle when sewn. This would of course have to be done after it is trimmed and the papers are removed.Originally posted by pam7040

Well, I finally finished February's borders. I've been so busy with a month long trip to Australia/New Zealand, 3 trips to Seattle for my ill mom in law and of course, work! I used the Double Diamond ruler to make the last border. Pretty scary putting on the border, then cutting into it! I then blanket stitched in black on the balck sections and in purple in the green sections. I'm liking this and am trying to come up with the next border. Any ideas? geneva
