overlay?

Does anyone use the overlay method? I took a class from Becky Goldsmith about 7 or 8 years ago and learned the Piece O'Cake way to do things. I think I may use it for this project too. Is anybody else thinking of using it?

Yes, if I understand what you mean by overlay. I am using a thin plastic that I got from the quilt store. I drew the design on it and add the applique underneath each time using the plastic to keep my placement from getting wonky on me.

I use "Pattern Eze" (it is used to make a muck pattern, for checking fit of garments) to make my overlays. I get it at JoAnn's by the yard.
I draw the pattern on it then sew it to the top of the background. This way it is always in the same position.
You set a applique piece, then roll the overlay to the top end of the block and safety piece while appliqueing
the piece. (I learned this from a class I took from Karen Kay Buckley)

Margarita, that sounds like a really good idea! I don't like using the vinyl, and I usually use Suzanne Marshall's take-away applique method, but I think I'll look for some of the pattern eze and try it! Thank you!

I trace my blocks onto Staedtler 18" wide x50yds sketch Paper. I get it at Hobby Lobby or an art store. I can keep the paper in a sheet protector and in my note book. I did a quilt with the vinyl and then had to find a way to keep it from sticking together and storing it. The paper can be taken with me and I just find it easier to use.
