Second attempt at making the four units - first time I didn't match the points correctly between the 2 pieces, so the navy side bits didn't seem long enough, but only realised my mistake on the fourth one! Easier to make them again rather than unpicking the really small stitches!! All good practice

I have purchased two of Alison Glass Sunprint collections in fat quarters for my version of the quilt in prints. My colours may not be the same as the pattern requirements but I will just substitute a similar colour. The rainbow of colours I have is beautiful and I'm sure they will look great. I got a couple extra half metre pieces in blues as there seems to be a fair bit of blue in the quilt.. There are no browns but a few dark greys that I will used instead of brown if they don't look too dark. I also got the Sunprint "Whispers" range that are white for my background pieces. I'm just waiting for my freezer paper sheets to arrive in the mail so I can start. Until then I will just pet the fabrics.

Christine, that is an absolutely beautiful palette! I am excited to see what you do with it.

Christine R, I love, love, love those fabrics. I looked at those in Dec. but the website said it would not
be available until March. Looks like you found it in Jan. I use Allison Glass pearl cotton 8 all the time in hand embroidery. The ball of thread look just like your beautiful fabrics. Gorgeous colors. Last year when I waited for a collection
by the time (summer) it was available I already had started 4 new projects and never did do the BOM.
I think your quilt will be spectacular. You could always just assign a color to be used in place of
the brown, but I think the grey would look great as a replacement. HelenWLast edited by Helen W.; 01-12-2026, 08:45 AM.

Helen, they look good. It will be interesting to see your color choices. I’ve now decided to do 50% so I don’t run out of fabric and it will be a wall hanging as well. The seam allowances printed out exactly 1/8 inch so I can use that for the sewing and the trimming with the 1/8 ruler. Thanks for your generous suggestions, as always. Barbara’s freezer paper technique works great. I think we did Color My World the same way.
-
I would also like to do 65% but do I just trust my printer as I can’t work out what the test square should measure on the printout.

Hi Jill P. I do trust my printer when I type 65 in the percentage box. But, another way would to
be to print the next month at 65 % use a large diameter pin to poke a hole in each corner of test square that is aligned with a test box from the month before. If the holes line up perfectly you are good to go.
I use vellum, so you can lay one month test box on top of month 2 test box and if the lines are
directly on top of each other you should be good to go. I would not try to measure them.
When I did Color My World at 65% I did not even think about it, and it all worked out.

Finished month 1. It was slow going on the first block as I went very slowly and carefully. By the time I finished the fourth one I had my paper piecing grove back and was ready to keep going. This picture looks like the 4 "blocks" are joined, but they are not. This is going to be a challenge with such unusual shapes. Love a challenge!

I used your suggestion to baste the two sections together at the white point and it saved a lot of time with a pleasing result - thank you!
