I would also like to say please watch Barbara’s YouTube regarding this month with her tips. I very much appreciated sewing them in pairs and watching closely the size you get with stitching and pressing. Those long strips it is challenging to keep your seams straight and accurate. Check your measurements several spots along the strip and correct if needed.
I would also suggest starting with row 3 first to get the hang of sewing accurately, than way by the time you get to row 1 you are a pro!
Barbara’s blog is also great with lots of information!
I am working on my strip sets…
Thanks Lynn on the pattern and the great story. Sewing my blocks on my treadle machine.(White Rotary)
Happy Quilting!

I did 2 blocks. So cute!!!!
One learning suggestion; make sure your seams are going to the right on row 2 before attaching the triangles. I got mine turned around as fabrics are the same on both sides, I was finding my seams were not nesting correctly.
So glad I did only two blocks.
I am not sure what fabric I will be using for other side. I am doing a Southwest Theme,Linda H

This is my second email about purchasing the kit from the quilt show. I've been looking everywhere. Sent an message to IT for he[p so I guess I'm offline or will look for comparable fabrics. It's such a pretty quilt I really would like to do it with the proper fabric.. Also please don't tell me to go to the top of the page. I've been everywhere in the last 3-4 hrs Hazel FowlerLast edited by Hazel F.; 03-29-2025, 06:43 AM.

The kits have been sold out for quite some time. On the Forum there is a post about a quilt shop that had some of the fabrics for sale online. The Fabric Requirements are listed—Search for them by name to try to find a source for some/all of them.

Good morning Barbara! Unfortunately I did not read your email about the Facebook presentation for block 4 until the evening and I missed it.So 1st question when will the recording be available ? 2nd question when are you doing the live show for block 5 so I won’t miss it. Thank you for your time and I can’t wait to see the recording. Have a wonderful day!

You can find it now on YouTube, go to the Quilt Show channel there. Or search my name on YouTube, it shows up there.
It is also linked on The Quilt Show Facebook page, scroll down to find it. In the next day or two it will also be linked on the Laurel Ridge page on TQS website.
The next Live is May 2. We hope to have the technical issues resolved so it will be Live.Last edited by Barbara B.; 03-29-2025, 09:02 AM.

Loved your Month 4 presentation on TQS Live you tube. I was as awe struck as you when I had bought a Lynn Wilder pattern
in Jan called A Ribbon Runs Thru It and she used those actual size piecing diagrams to check your accuracy. Since that time
I have been doing a work around using line drawing of actual size on vellum (see thru) printed from EQ8 to lay on top of pieced sections and it
works perfectly. You instantly see any errors in you block construction.
Like you a have been playing around with using a feathered star in the center as an alternative block. When I saw your
design wall I was wondering what size is your feathered star? Just looking it seems like it might not be a multiple of 5.
I do like feathered stars in the middle. HelenWLast edited by Helen W.; 03-31-2025, 11:54 AM.HelenW

I sometimes think my mind just does not work like anyone else's. or maybe it just doesn't work! I printed my instructions in black and white so after cutting and subcutting all the strips I went to the instructions for sewing the sets and the spice berry fabrics look exactly alike in gray scale. So I thought I didn't cut enough blue spicberry strips cuz the pink cutting instructions were on a seperate page! Just a funny story in case anyone else does this. I figured it out though. Before I actually made any strip sets. So it's all good.

Barbara, I was playing with your center block. Tried one with colored border near the feathered star and one with
a background fabric border near the star, just to compare looks. I was thinking it would look best to me
if the border was background fabric, but after actually seeing the two I like the colored one best.
The 3rd picture is using a 20 inch feathered star no border.

Thanks Helen! That is very nice of you! I've been busy so couldn't work on this project for a while. I took your advice and bought EQ8 last week, came up with something to replace appliqué blocks. I'll share with you when I figure out how to print to pdf on my Mac :^)

Alice, Congratulations on getting EQ8. It is a wonderful software. But BEWARE it all suck a lot
lot of time out of your stitching time. It took me several years to become comfortable with using
it, but once you can do it, you would not want to give it up. I don't go to a lot of trouble about
printing when just putting a photo on the forum. On my iMac I just take a screenshot of what ever
screen I am on in EQ8. It goes to the desktop, where I click on it, it opens in Preview. Then I go
to the top menu bar in preview, click on Tools, scroll down to adjust size and set it at 60% (because
the forum does not take big photos). Then I just upload that from the desktop in the forum. It
might sound like a lot to do, but I can do it in less than a minute. HelenW

Lynn and Barbara, thank you for your efforts that are making Laurel Ridge a truly wonderful experience! Lynn, your videos are beautifully crafted and filled with wisdom. It is a joy to get to know you, even from a distance. Barbara, you too are giving me advice that will serve me well throughout my quilting life. Trim to perfection! Trust, but verify! I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from you both and make this exquisite quilt.Ann Cameron
