I have Rosa’s Apliquick tools and large scissors but have never used them, this morning I decided to re-watch her TQS show and afterward ordered myself some of the one-sided fusible and glue sticks. In the meantime I made a heart template and a football templet out of heat resistant Mylar, I just wasn’t satisfied with the freezer paper method for these. I’m using KKB’s perfect circles for the center and where the football tips meet.
-
I finished 3 of the 12 so far. I am using the same fabric for all the hearts, center circles, and berries for all 12, but using different fabrics for the petals. I used freezer paper, starch, and a long pin to turn the edges of the applique pieces. Added a touch of Roxanne’s glue for placement. Then I used my Bernina to blanket stitch to the background. I usually hand appliqué… but I have 3 other projects going on right now…

I’ve been obsessed with this quilt since I saw it. After I made the first 8 blocks, I couldn’t stop. Everything is from my stash, from 30-year-old Moda fabric to Carrie’s Caramels and Creams (a favorite), to current William Morris. I knew I didn’t want to do appliqué, so I replaced it with some of my favorite fabrics. I enlarged the center star and echoed the design around it rather than using flying geese. I made lots of other small tweaks. Now I’m trying to decide how I want to lengthen it. I wish my camera did a better job of capturing the colors.

Wow! OMG and amazing. You are incredibly talented! I like how you echoed the center design. It gives the quilt a look of radiating outwards. How much larger did you make the center star? Oh and your fabric is gorgeous! Seriously fantastic job!

Spectacular! Do you ever sleep? I love the changes you made. The echo of the design in the center is genius. And I love the duplication of the outside stars. It is so balanced. I am using the kit fabric with some additional colors. Would you mind if I copied your lay-out?

These closeups show the colors and details better than the big picture. One of my favorite parts was the baskets, and I usually don’t like baskets. For the basket part I fussy cut a stripe and I love how it turned out. It is one single piece. I used two different stripes throughout the quilt to frame some of the blocks.

I do a lot of handwork but have 2 large projects in progress so pieced blocks work. This is Double Wrench from Jinny Beyers book Patchwork Patterns. I’m mostly using fabrics my stash. I thought the plaid was important and ordered some fabrics from Lynn’s websiteLast edited by morvmullet; 02-03-2025, 02:03 PM.“The biggest block to creativity is being afraid to take a risk”.
