I am using my own fabric and had fun using so many different fabrics in the ring. Looking forward to next month,

Month one finished. Hand pieced, used plastic templates. I have made three Jen Kingwell quilts (Delila, Queens Cross and Steam Punk—all plastic templates and hand pieced. I love how they block go together. I use 28 mm and 10 mm rotary cutters to cut out the pieced. I add grippers to the back of the templates. This is the first time using a sandpaper board. OMG, so much easier to do the marking. I used a micron pen to mark the dots before cutting. There were several great tips in the video—especially using the corresponding template to mark curves.

Who ever you are, Love your block color arrangement. The warm colored star and cool colored
fans. Wish I would have thought of that. HelenW

Agree with Helen, love the way you arranged your warm and cool colors.
The sandpaper board is so useful. I'd hate to do without mine.

Month 1. I love this SO much. I also think I am now addicted to hand piecing. I'm using all stash and scrap fabrics except for the backgrounds.
I printed and laminated the templates and this is working well.

You did such a great job! Hand piecing is wonderful to have in your bag of tricks.

I decided to applique the center onto the background square. I am impressed that it is so easy to hand sew the seams.

        Month 1, hand pieced.
Edit: After my block hung on my design wall for a few days, I decided to change my background to an off white with a more subtle pattern.

I like it both ways, but I definitely understand why you changed it. This is off to a beautiful start!

I finished my center block. I wanted the star to “pop” so I used all blue.

I am going to follow Barbara’s advice and start making the border fans so I pressed my fabric. I found a way to organize it - by color way on those “sticky” hangers”. The cut strips are also hanging.

One row done. Wish I had cut handle as a semicircle instead of quarter circle = less sewing and less bulk.

Cathleen, The small center button will work on the center, but it looks like you will have problem with some of the outer border
because you don't have the 1/4 inch seam allowance at the end of the points of the star. Are using using templates you make? Are you stitching by hand or machine? HelenW

I believe my fans were larger so they can get turned under with plenty of space. I didn't notice anyone's star points overhanging. I'll have to go back and take a look. When I posted my pictures I did it from my phone and I didn't see I was in the wrong category. Helen if you'd delete my centers will be gone from this page. Thanks

First time ever quilting, following a pattern, and hand stitching! After a few calls to mom, watching and rewatching videos, and following the forum…. month one is done! Is it perfect, absolutely not but I’m ok with that

                It looks great! Nicely done!

Love your block! I'm not scrappy - it's too busy. I've thought of limiting number of fabrics would be better for me.

Working ahead behind the scene. Decided to just go for some blocks. Used my combo of Pick A Petal and Daisy Do block.
Then some of the curved sided 9 patch-ish blocks and just playing with layouts. Not planing on sewing any rows, just looking
at different layouts using EQ8. HelenW

January block is finished! This will be all from stash and scrappy! I used the "hybrid" method and also cut a 17"x17" background to applique the star on. Will not trim until later. Using from stash and scrappy! Thank you to Jen Kingwell and Barbara Black. The blog and tutorials are very informative. This is my third BOM from The Quilt Show and really enjoying seeing the blocks being posted.

Month 1 is done. The first one wasn’t flat. So I follow Carole B. advice : consider this as a learning experience and start over. The second one is better. Thanks to Carole ,HelenW, Barbara, and many others for your help. What a fun project, I really enjoyed doing it.I’m looking forward to month 2.

Helene H. What a nice difference in your background. That first block would make a nice pillow to
go with the finished quilt. HelenW

Fans for 3 sides done except for pressing and outer border. Still deciding whether to do outer borders all in the same fabric or keep it scrappy.

Sheridan, I really, really like your fans with the black lines in the Lollies fabric. Adds interest and
looks harder than it is. You could audition in EQ8. Lay your fans on a back ground, take a picture
of each fan and you can import as each as a photo and put them into your coloring page. You could add a
picture of your center block also. Then you have what you've done and can play with the other
blocks to decide colorations you like to add to what you have. I did similar in a post on 1/27/24. HelenW
