Barbara, will the two half-yard pieces of bias stem fabric be used for anything else in the quilt? I'm wondering if I can go ahead and use those entire pieces to make bias stems so I have stems ready whenever I need them. Or would that be a mistake?

Jeanie, the two half yards of green are only intended for the stems. The entire quilt uses about 15 yards total but not in long lengths. Month 7 is the wide border, it will use about 8 yards, again, not in one long length.
There are two pieces of the same fabric already in the kit, intended for leaves and large Triangles--you can see which months they are used in the Fabric Requirements document.

The topic with the information on how much fabric is required for each border is called BACKGROUND FABRIC BY BORDER.
The exact measurements will be given month by month.

Glad you posted the nonbias stem on month 1 was 8 inches long. I could not find the measurement in the pattern instructions. It goes in the center of the 10.5 inch squares of background fabric, I see. Frieda Pickett

Frieda, the 8" measurement is in the pattern instructions for Month 1 under Applique.

I've been trying to write you guys about what I found at our local sewing store. Walla! It's called Pellon, Lite EZ-Steam ll. It's 1/4" x 40 yds. www.PellonProjects.com. Mine was $6.10. I made my bias like Sarah said. Then unroll the tape applying as you go. It's as close to her's in Australia as you crew can get. Sorry, I can't figure out how to post my pics here. But this name is right. It works great. Click image for larger version

This is what I used for my stems as well. I like the way it worked out.
