Peg, You are great with color. It is so cheerful and fun. Glad to see you putting some embroidery in there. I am working two variations. One is my perfect garden party, pulling all things that I like from any patterns that I have, and the second is going to
be embroidery on a dark background. Not sure that will get any further than just the center block, but we will see. HelenW

My block is finished and all is appliquéd. I made 1 paper-pieced side and pinned it up to check colors. I haven’t trimmed the block to size yet.

Month 1 done! That was an enjoyable challenge! I have always avoided applique but because of this quilt, I have made it my goal for 2022 to see if I can master this skill. It will be interesting to see if I have improved by December. I actually enjoyed every minute of the process this month and although it is far from perfect, I am happy with my results (fabrics from stash). Thanks TQS!

Here’s my Month 1 block, done with needle turn appliqué. My real garden has grey slate paving stones so I took those as a model for my border. The second picture shows my plan including my inspiration fabric at the top. I used that fabric as border.

Taking a break from edge stitching Month 1 center block. Thinking ahead to Month 2. Going to make my border wider so I can
do flowers and bird houses. This is the start of the first border. Will need to compensate the number of dog tooth triangles by
what I get after making one border. Then I will do the math. I just kind of roll with what I like the looks of. HelenW

It’s official- my first block is finished! Yay! I am excited to go on! I used Riley Blake’s black pinstripe for the corners as I am using the black pinstripe for my outside borders and thought it would be appropriate to connect the beginning to the end.

My Garden done in Japanese woven, next trim and add dog tooth edge.

The fabrics are listed as Japanese yarn dyes on Etsy. The circles are made using cardboard from cereal boxes, I cut fabric were it almost touches when you fold the sides together. Run gathering stitch, use double strand of thread to get your pull to cinch up and press, slightly loosening gathering and remove template, use your thread and cinch back up, ready to stitch. The extra fabric gathered up makes the circles look padded. The templates can be used many times.
