Looking for tips for organizing Color My World

I couldn't find a thread referencing staying organized, so I figured I would start one. I think it would be helpful to share ideas and tips for keeping all of this organized. There are lots of parts and pieces I already have a binder set up like what was suggested in the video and a 12x12 scrapbook box, but it isn't big enough to hold it all. Any ideas and suggestions will be very much appreciated.

    Vikkilynn61,
This is not threads, just general organization. Like you, I use Barbara notebook idea with clear protector pages. Since I am mostly taking fabrics from my stash, I make a
swatch chart on a piece of fusible interfacing so I can drag it around, and when I get an opportunity, to get more fabric, even if it is a friends scrap stash, by looking at my
chart I can tell if it will work with what I have. To keep my project contained when I need to get it all out of the way, I use one of those big 16 gallon tote bins that we get
at Costco. To keep my fabrics organized, I put them in 2 1/2 gal. zip Hefty bags that I get at Walmart. The threads would be in a small plastic container or zip lock bag.
Anything and everything goes in the tote if it is not on the work table. That way I can always find it. HelenW

I too use a note book for keeping all printed materials together and a plastic box for keeping the fabric together. Barbara recommended we keep the little pieces left over from cutting in a ziplock bag or something, so I started doing that as well. When piecing, I found that cutting and labeling the different pieces was great (I think I saw Barbara did that in one of her videos) - see my picture. I cut one set from each of my fabrics, but I have plenty. I will place those leftover cut pieces, along with their identifying tag, into small ziplock bags. I'm sure you (and I) will see lots more ideas.

      Hope this helps - Marti

I use an Ikea box, made different shelves for similar colours and also have a note book for the printed papers

When you say one set...does that mean 3.5 inch, 5.5 and 7.5 inch pieces ? I’m assuming they are strips.

If your question is directed at me - here is what I did. I have 27 different fabrics to use on building houses and buildings. From each of those 27 fabrics I cut a 3.5" strip as Barbara suggested. From each of those strips I cut as directed by the instructions, pieces a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, l, m, and i. House 1 and 2 cut requirements are so similar, I just use the same cut them the same. Doing this gave me enough to do both Houses 1 and 2. As far as background fabric, I cut according to Barbara's instructions.

                Hope that helps.

I am about to start cutting my fabric. Did you use all of the fabrics provided? I mean just the fabrics l/3 fabrics ..or did you also cut the 1/2 yard fabrics. I just was wondering why the two different sizes. I didn't see anywhere it stated what the 1/2 yd fabrics are for?

Billie, the two blues are half yards since they are used in the Compass center. The two greens are half yards since they are the trees. Include all four of those in your house building fabrics.

I use shoe or boot boxes for my projects. They are generally a good size to hold all the fabrics and patches. I usually have one for the fabrics and one for the completed patches. Boots come in a bigger box so can fit more in of course. A new project is always a good excuse for a new pair.

Carole, Here is a screenshot of the quilt, and if you look at it, I see only a few roofs and a tower that might be charcoal in the houses. Maybe ask Barbara of there was any left over of the
charcoal and cream when she made the sample. If yes, then I would say there is no reason not to use it in the houses. HelenW

I’m using stash & its already beginning to overtake the hall way LOL. I have a binder with page protectors for printed pages & a design wall in guest bedroom just for this beauty.....it’s an exciting project, I love this new way (to me) to paper piece & I’ve redesigned the interior of houses 1 & 2 (I call them renegades) so there’s 24 in my neighborhood so far. Maybe they’ll make it in the quilt or start a new wonderful colorful neighborhood.

No, there is just enough charcoal for the roads, and a few tiny pieces in a couple skyscrapers. The cream is only for the roads.
