MONTH 4–Appliqué Blocks and Shoo Fly Blocks

Month 4 introduces appliqué blocks with complete circles. Here is a tip for making them in one single piece:

Barbara, Back to back patriotic quilts on your blog.Your demo quilt is beautiful. Can't believe you were able to get that entire 1/4 circle made with freezer paper out in one piece by slitting the back of the background fabric. I know for sure I must be using way too much glue when I edge turn with glue and the Appliquik tools. You did a beautiful job on
your one block that was entirely hand done. Your tutorials make making this quilt so much more fun, because you take the stress of trial and error out of the equation. I feel
I am learning so much. Thank you. HelenW

It is only month 4 but not too early to keep your eyes open for quilting ideas for Afternoon Delight.
This morning I looked at the Daily Blog and watched Alex skype with Lori Kennedy. I went to Lori's website and
she has a wealth of information on free motion quilting. I usually draw the design and keep the feed dogs up and stitch
but her ideas would work well that way too. I loved how she just put a little quilting on top of the appliques. Most people,

including myself, just echo stitch around the appliques. Her, little bit of quilting on the appliques really adds interest.
I added one screen shot from her site to show you what I mean. HelenW

Helen, great info, thanks for sharing. Stitching on the appliqués also protects them from wear as well.

Now, why don’t you have a profile photo? You provide such good suggestions, we want to see you.

Barbara, I did not have a photo profile because I started using the forum just to get the tips everyone was giving out, and
I never even thought about it. I just put one up, of me in my sewing room.HelenW
