    Got them done!

I enjoy Sue Garmans patterns. Month one down, anxiously awaiting month two. I chose template free/backbasting technique for the appliqué blocks.

Gorgeous! So clever to slide your blocks into plastic sleeves to protect them!

I like the sleeve idea as well. Great way to keep them wrinkle free and can be stored in a binder. Thank you for the idea!!!

        Edie,
I mostly do prepared-edge hand applique. But for this quilt I am doing back-basting applique also. Well, I am trying. Mine aren't ready to show yet. I am a bit slow.
Back-basting applique is new to me, but I enjoy trying new quilting things, even though I am a very old lady!
Can anyone recommend a book or online source to help with the learning curve?
        Any tips?

Hi Judy, here in North Dakota it is 21* and foggy. The trees look like they are dressed in white lace.
I learned back basting when 'Simply Quilts' was on.(www.hgtv.com Simply Quilts: Episode QLT-644 Vintage Roses Jeana Kimball explains how to piece and appliqué a vintage rose quilt.) I love using Jeana's straw needles. You can find them at Foxglove Cottage. I have one of her books which shows the technique. She was also featured in 'American Patchwork and Quilting ' December 2002 issue 59.
More recently I came across this technique online at appleblossomquilts.com Pictorial Guide to Back Basting.
          Hope this helps, Edie

Hi Judith, I have not tried it but at the beginning of the month when someone mentioned it, I had to google it to find out what the process was.
I found one good you tube video by American Quilting titled Back Basted Applique that is 14 minutes long. It takes you thru the process.
That might help you. I love that you are open to learning new quilting techniques. Very inspirational.
I noticed that you also said books. It looks like Barbara Eikmeirer's book on back basting got a lot of good reviews on Amazon.

Edie and Helen, I ordered the Barbara Eikmeier book and downloaded the Apple Blossom pictorial guide. Now to look for the Simply Quilts show. I didn't know you could still watch them!

              Thank you!
