Beeps...I like your approach and look forward to seeing more. I tend to like having all my colors/fabrics figured out in advance, but always wish I could be more of a "risk taker".

Decided to take on the challenge of this lovely quilt. Here is my completed block for month 1. Using my own fabric, but sort of following along the lines of the cool version.

Is anyone cutting the framing fabric a little larger to trim to size later?

eswitkes, great question about cutting Bock Corners larger. I am cutting mine 10.75" and trim slightly when the blocks is done. I have a 20.5" square ruler which makes that very easy to do.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing is that the inner curve exactly matches the curve on the Block Corner Template--the outside edges can be as large as you like.

eswitkes: regarding cutting the background fabric. Block 1 was too close for my taste so, yes, I am increasing the size of the background for all the remaining blocks so that the outside edges are about 1/4 inch larger all around and I will be able to square up to 20.5"

I had a late start and am finally finished with Block 1. I love reds and pinks and am using a combination of my own fabric stash and newly purchased fabrics. Sewing the circle into the frame was a learning experience for me. Looking forward to Block 2!

p Sizzle Block 1, I changed thread colors between sewing diamond together and then wedges to each other. Started just using aurifil 2370m had some show through even with smaller stitch. Looking forthread color recomenddations for future blocks. thank you.

I'm finally starting this month's block, I have a couple of questions: Should I starch my fabrics? seems like for the paper pieced parts it would be a good idea. And, what are the 4 spools of thread that were included in the kit to be used for? Are they for the applique or quilting? I plan on using Aurifil 50 weight thread for the piecing part since it is thin and strong.

It's exciting to see what all the blocks look like. i wasn't up to choosing colors so I went with the cool kit. The fabrics are beautiful.

Kathyst2, I am a big fan of stabilizing fabric. I starched and found it much easier to get the precision I was hoping for. Enjoy,
