Month 2 BOM 2017 The Halo Medallion Quilt

I am helping double-check the pattern so my Month 2 is done. I have a small group who are working on this quilt, 15 of us, we will be meeting this Sunday afternoon--I am eager to see their stars.

Here is the Blog Post I've just released on tips, things that helped me, for Month 2:

Barbara, I can't believe how fast you are. The block is awesome!! I am hoping to work on mine today. Also I decided to try a 1/2 size BOM and so far its going well. Time will tell.

Now, for my gripe for month 2. We DON'T need a video on threads at the beginning of this quilt, I am pretty sure we can figure that out. There are so many new members that a video on how the floaters work would be great.

Sharon and Everyone, here is the link to an Instructional Video done by Sue Garman for the 2009 BOM. Topic 6 of 12 pertains to Floaters.

I recommend everyone doing the 2017 BOM look at all 12 of Sue's instructional videos--much of the information will relate to the 2017 quilt pattern too.

To Find Video 6, click on the Playlist in the Upper Left of the screen--all 12videos are there. Topic 6 = Floaters.

Barbara, you are a wealth of information. I don't need help on the floaters, but didn't realize the old videos of 2009 BOM were still available.

Thank you very much for taking the time to find that.

I have been unable to locate the foundation papers for the 1" half square triangkes as shiwn in your helpful video. Can you disclose source?

The foundation pieces are in the download for Month 2, pages 8 through 11. Hope this helps.

I found that I had my printer set as "Fit to Page" Once this is unchecked the sizes are perfect.

Just being slightly off, multiplied, caused the problem.

Kilthose, I meant to put that paper info in the blog. When I update it with photos of the stars my group has made, I will add that.

In the meantime, here is the link I was sent by a group member. It's just newsprint and you can sometimes find it at places like the Dollar Store, often on a pad, 9" x 12". This is 8.5" x 11" and I had no problem printing on it with my HP ink jet printer:

Thanks for the heads up on the videos. I watched all 12 videos and fill that the instruction on all videos was well worth the time.

I use a program called Triangulations to print triangle paper on the computer. Works great and includes every size.

My block came out to be 24 1/2" before putting the half square triangle strip on. I just finished one of the half square triangle borders and it is measuring 25 3/8". I checked the squares before sewing and they did measure 1" square. Anybody else having this problem? Or should the squares measure less than 1"?

Yes, the half square triangles do measure 1" finished. My borders needed tweaking too. A bit of assertive pressing might get you that missing 1/8". Mine were slightly too long so I tightened up a couple of the seams where the paper strips are joined together.

You can also use the floater to make everything fit together nicely--just follow the directions for calculating the size your floaters need to be.

Hi - this is my first quilt project.. I am a month behind since I did not receive my package until around Februarry 8. So far so good my center is on the mark. And I am up to the sawtooth border. I was wondering if anyone taped the patterns together to make for long srips rather than seaming the sections together. I await anyones input befroe I start my sawtoogh borders.

                            Thank you

I am working on my half square triangles. They are not straight before I take the papers off. Is this going to be a problem when I go to sew them on my block?
