Your Month 1 block is beautiful. Blue, green and a touch of yellow. My favorites.
I remember when there was a show and tell area for each BOM. It was easy to see all the pictures in one place.
Now I looked in "Member Group" but didn't see a group for 2017 BOM Halo Medallion.
We just keep sharing no matter what
but it would be nice to have all the BOM pictures in one place.

Everyone's blocks are beautiful! I'm waiting for my focus fabric to arrive; I ordered 3 yards of it from Connecting Threads. I'm hoping it will get here tomorrow or Tuesday so I can pull fabrics. This is the first BOM that I've attempted since Ruffled Roses, and I quit that one early on. I think I'm going to revisit it. I've downloaded every one of the BOMs, but Sue's were the ones that resonated with me.
Is there a way to ask ARJJ's computer gurus to start a show and tell for the 2017 BOM?

Someone on the Forum was going to try my way of testing the seam allowance but asked for a photo of how I use the purple thang. I misspoke... it is not the purple thang! It's QTools Sewing Edge (reusable vinyl strip--and it happens to be purple!). Sorry for the mistake! :blush:Originally posted by "Renata" post=139149For anyone still having a hard time getting a 16 1/2" block and having trouble getting a perfect 1/4" seam... I took a slightly different approach to getting the 1/4" seam right and it seems to be working so far.
Rather than testing the accuracy of the 1/4" seam in the more conventional way, I took one of the paper templates, cut on the line for the seam allowance and then used that as my test under the machine. I placed the needle on the paper seam line, placed a "purple thang" to the right butted up against the template, then stitched on the seam line of the paper template. If stitching stayed on the stitching line, then my purple thang was properly aligned and because I used the actual template, I knew I had a perfect 1/4" seam. Instead of the purple thang, you can use post-its or tape.
While I have not put all the blocks together to finalize the star block, ALL of my points are aligning perfectly so far. I hope my block will finish at 16 1/2"--it should, I'll let you know!

Hi! This is my first attempt at a bed quilt and Block of the month. Thus I read every tip and suggestion I could find and watche The Quilt Show three times before starting. I am hoping my fabric coices will work over all. I also have some tips to contribute in that I had some very useful tools in my sewing room that others may find useful too. Clover has a pressing tool for hems that is super thin, rigid, and has a flocked finish that grips fabric so it doesn't slip. I used it to fold the paper back and in conjunction with the add a quarter ruler, trimmed the seams with ease. (Photo attached) in addition, Clover makes wonder clips that were designed to be used for binding a quilt. The edges are designed to line up both the front and back at the same time - so when I set the edge of the clip at the sewing line on the front, it showed me precisely whether my back seam line was aligned. Invaluable in precision piecing like this. I am proud to include my finished block. Here is my attempt at a variation in blue for my Halo medalion.
