Panel Used for Center Block
I used a panel for my center block and added the pieced border today. The information about the panel is in my latest blog post:

For those of you who do not know Barbara, I am going to give praises where praises are due! Barbara made the absolutely beautiful red and white raffle quilt for the IQA show in Houston for the 40th anniversary, in 2014.
Here is the cover of our book for that year.....

I hope you are doing well, Barabara! I am not doing this year's BOM. I need to finish two other BOMs before tackling a new one.

Thanks, Dawn--so kind of you to say. This was selected as the Commemorative Quilt that represents the 40th anniversary of International Quilt Festival. It was not a raffle quilt. It is now in the Corporate Collection of Quilts Inc. and will be on exhibit at the Texas Quilt Museum from June 30-September 25, 2016. Another great reason to visit that terrific museum.

Oh my gosh, Barbara! That IS funny! I went back to the cover, and sure enough, the tree of life block and the heart block are upside down! And, where would someone cast the blame? I'm sure that cover layout passed over many desks before going to print! But, I have seen that happen before. Even on a Quilter's Newsletter Magazine cover!
And, I looked at my commemorative pin, and see it is a block right out of your quilt. It must give you quite a warm fuzzy feeling!

What a surprise to find that another TQS quilter, another Barbara, found a Sidmouth quilt medallion panel and has also decided to use it for her version of the 2016 BOM Rajah quilt. My appliqué skills are pretty rudimentary but I was committed to making my first Bom ever so I searched the Internet for a 13 1/2 inch panel and finally found this on Etsy. I think it has just the right feel for the Rajah quilt. Just as the original broderie perse center panel suggests the birds circling over their ship as the prisoners leave England, I think this Sidmouth scene suggests their safe arrival and nest building in their new home. It also reminds me of a 2008 trip to the donkey sanctuary in Sidmouth England! Our quilts will probably end up looking quite different but this is a fun coincidence don't you think?

Make that 3 Bom's with the same starting panel. I bought mine from the Quilter's Guild of Great Britain museum shop a couple of years ago with no plans as to what to do with it and decided that this would be the perfect project for it too. The original panel was a rectangle, but the Guild redesigned it to be square to be more in keeping with todays taste.
