Barb, your forget-me-not flowers are so sweet, I love them. I used to have them planted in a previous garden, and I enjoyed their bright blue eyes winking out at me. Nice memory!

I think your idea is brilliant... No "Y" seam! Well, if anyone is interested, I've drawn one without Y seam as well! :cheer:

Just PM me your personnal address.

 I've done yours with Y seam. Just the Y seams to finish

Done! I feel as though I've achieved something this month  Now for a picture block or 2 and another 6 blocks.

Thanks I can't answer your question Nancy. I enjoyed the challenge of calculating the sizes for piecing though I could have drawn it out and measured it and not had to do work out the impossible width of the log cabin bit. It was satisfying managing the Y seam and fairly mindless piecing the foundation one. I enjoy being in the quilting zone doing foundation and the satisfaction of an accurate block and enjoying the fabric and colours. That's the short answer

So if doing it again I'd use foundation with my way (on last page) without the Y seams. Andree's drawn it out and can send it.

I challenge you to do it Lynette Anderson's way with 54 half square 3/4" half square triangle blocks

Well done Wendy! I admire your courage. I gave up on the half-size long ago, much too small for my big fists. Those tiny 1/2" finished squares were such a challenge. I think my miniature days are over....not that they ever really started.

                        Month 7 - variable star
Finished size: 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" (5x5 from edge to edge) - like all other blocks....

                        For this block, we need:
                        4 squares(background) 2" x 2"
                        1 square (center) 2" x 2"
For the QST, you will need 4"x4" squares : 1 of the background color, 1 of the "center" color, 2 of the "star points" color. I cut twice too much!

To make the QST, trace a line 1/4" on each side of the diagonal, on the background 4X4 square.

Align this background with one of the "Starpoint" color square. Sew on the lines, and cut in half.

Press towards the "starpoint" color. Cut in half (from one corner to the other),making sure to align with the seam.

Take the 2 other 4X4 squares, and do the same process. Match 2 halves with alternate colors. Sew together. - the seams will "nest".
Remove the center stitches to press the seam allowances opposite.

Align your ruler with the 1" mark on the center, and cut to have a 2"x2" square.

Place the squares. Sew in rows. On the center row, I press towards the center square, and on the top and bottom rows, I pressed towards the corners. When joining the rows together, the seams will nest again.
