    Paper foundations

I would love to do the T and Q blocks with paper piecing but don't know where to start and do not have the patterns for the STARS FOR A NEW DAY as Margo suggested. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's a link to a website where you can get a free pdf for HSTs. The size you need is 2" finished size. I used them to make the trees in the T block. Hope that helps.

Rita, thanks for sharing that web site. It'll sure come in handy - I seem to use a lot of hst's in my quilts and this will sure be easier.

The foundations I used from our 2009 TQS BOM "Stars for a New Day" are the ones that finish 1"x 1", and I used them for the "Q" block.
(Month 4; page 12; I made 2 copies and only used 3 sections.)
I've just realized that the 1" foundations are also in Month 3, pages 10 and 11.

The HSTs for the "T" block do finish at 2". That size foundation can be found in Month 3, page 12.
However, I did NOT use HSTs for my "T" block, but drew my own foundation papers so that there are no extra seams.

I also made the tree trunks on one foundation and cut the two strips from that.

That's a much better idea Margo, wish I had thought of it. Joining those seams together at the points of the trees is a pain if they are not opposing seams. A paper pieced version would be so much better.

To paper piece the HST's in the Q block (using Rita's link above for foundation papers) is the measurement for these units 1" finished? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Pam, I just had a quick look at the pattern - haven't got to the 'Q' yet - it's in the queue  - you trim the HST units to 1 1/2" so that means they are finished size 1" so yes the 1" finished size paper pieced HSTs will be right.

                    Hi Rita,
Thanks for your help. I tend to do applique and I am so inexperienced in piecing. I am challenging myself with this A to Z quilt, but really enjoying it, the instructions are clear and there's help from lovely people like you.
