Letter D - step 3 - triangle ruler
I do not own a triangle ruler and am not sure how I should be trimming the unit without that ruler. Is there another way to do this or do I have to go out and purchase a triangle ruler?

Watch the video again. Julie shows how to do this with a regular Olfa or Omnigrid ruler. I had to watch a couple of times.
I have to admit, this task sent me to internet shopping in a snow-storm. I found more more than one ruler to make quick work of half-square triangles. I wish everyone would post their favorite ruler for this task.

Chana, here is a link to Julie's videos: learn/classrooms/

I don't know if that was the correct way to do it, and I would love to see how others have done it, but here is a closeup of my appliqué (I used single blanket stitch on that half-size):Originally posted by jansk44This is a question about how to do the blanket stitch around the letter D. I don't want a build up of thread where the spine crosses over the D. That D weaves? over and under the spine. Love that look am new to blanket stitch so wondering how it is done. Hope this makes sense.
I did it in 4 steps -
1- The big circle of the "D" - start and stop at the bottom crossing;
2 - the top of the "spine" - start and stop at the top crossing;
3 - The "tip" of the "D", start and stop at the bottom crossing, but going over the top crossing;
4 - The bottom of the "spine", start and stop at the top crossing, but going over the bottom crossing.
Hope that helps.

Here's food for thought...do you make any crossing on a letter appear as if it goes over or under? There are lots of interpretations in the Show 'n Tell, so ultimately, it's a personal preference :lol: :lol: I think font-wise, the A and F should have over-unders. Ha! Not even Janet did that!!!! and I'm surely not going to change what's been done, but may think more carefully on future letters.

Well, I didn't hesitate to do my "D" the way Andree's was done. It just happened. But, I went back and look at my "A" and "f" and I have some work to do! Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
