    What does the kit include?

    Hi All!

Vascillating between purchasing the kit ('cuz that is such an easy thing to do) or using my "stash" which could result in a not having enough of whatever "theme" I decide to go with. Unless I do 30's repro. Have tons of that.

Before I purchase the kit (if I do) what does it include?

All the fabric for the blocks and applique elements?
    Background fabric?
    Sashing fabric?
    Border fabric?
    Backing fabric?
    Binding fabric?

    Thanks!
    Robin

Hi Robin, I have not purchased the kit but if you go to the TQS Shoppe at shop you will see the BOM kit and all that it includes. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Renata! I thought I looked all of the TQS site for that information. Obviously not every nook and corner. Now to decide ... decisions, decisions, decisions ...

I to want to determine the value of the kit. let's be honest at todays prices quality fabric for a quilt this size (if you don't make any bad cuts) its a good value. so quilters are you pleased with the kits you purchased? OR is it just too much fabric that you feel overwhelmed? does having the same fabric as the video make it simpler? thanks for you insight, Robin

Hi Robin! (Although Robin is not necessarily an uncommon name, I rarely run into other Robins)

For me I was trying to balance the EASE of having a kit and all the fabric right there and not having to track down fabric that all looked good togeher vs trying to "create" my own color scheme when there were so many different blocks. I decided to go with the kit.

HOWEVER ... I was reading the forum for the BOM and realized that it might be a good idea (for me) to make ... two ... of each block! The first with my stash so that I could make all the mistakes on that fabric and then a second with the kit. I've not had good luck making things from a kit and am a little ... mmm, nervous. There are so many success stories on the forum, but when people had questions those were the type of questions *I* would have or would have blindly pushed my way through and wound up mis-cutting the fabric.

Good luck on what you decide to do!

I don't normally buy kits, but have had success with these through BOM. The first two years of the TQS BOM I used my own fabrics. To keep yourself straight I printed off the page in the directions that listed all the fabrics and then I cut swatches of my fabric to glue/tape next to it.

The 3rd year I loved Alex's whimsical fabrics and did order the kits for those two quilts. I cut very frugally (and recut in some cases) and had plenty of fabric. I went with the kit this year. It includes all the fabric needed. You can check out what the kit has and/or what fabric you would need on the introduction downloads on the BOM page.

Check out the BOM Show and Tell pages! You will be inspired by the choices of colorways AND how beautifully the kits come together.

I wish I would have waited for the kit, but already purchased the confetti fabric and am using my stash for the rest.

I really would like to get some of that light blue fabric that is used for the border, does anyone know what it is and where to purchase?
I have finished the January blocks and love it. Janet

                Hi Lorna!

Yes, I visited the Show and Tell. There are some beautiful color ways. Personally I think the black and brights is stunning! (I forgot the name of the piecer, but bravo for your color choices!) I wish my daughter-in-law would be happy with that. Alas, I don't think she would.

Janet, look at the list of the fabric you want, copy the SKU number, then do a google search and you will get a list of places to purchase. For instance, Sky Blue, search for "RJR 4758-34 Fabric". Right now, Hancocks of Paducah has it listed. Order enough & their shipping is free, as I recall.

[color=#004040]I decided to purchase the kit. It is scrappy quilt, so if I make a mistake it’s a good reason to use my stash. Since the background is not over sized, I will be real careful with that fabric. Thanks for all the conversation. Robin

I don't think you can make a mistake! It's just customizing for personal preference.

I bought the sky blue border fabric - RJR's Handspray - from webfabrics.net. I purchased all the Handsprays listed for the BOM from them. the fabrics with the larger amounts of yardage I decided to purchase, the others I'm finding in my stash (14 of them). Makes me feel good that I'm using something that I already own.
