Fancy Blanket Stitch on Different Machines

Margo, I watched the show you referenced on a stitch sampler a few minutes ago. I also watched I think a Sue Nickels/Pat Holly CD long ago that showed each stitch sewn lengthwise on the back of a business card, sewn in red thread, with the stitch number written on the card. Then the business cards were inserted in to a business card holder that had plastic pages that you could insert eight or ten cards to a page. (Do they make those anymore????) At any rate, I have an old card holder and the business cards I had leftover from when I retired a few years ago - I think I'll give that a whirl. I hadn't thought of it again until I looked at the show you mentioned. Thanks for sending me in that direction!

Thank you, Rosamond! I'll bet her class was wonderful. I'm going to do this. What brand stabilizer are you using - the heavy duty as in embroidery stabilizer (OESD)? I'll bet you refer to it often, too, don't you?

Yes, I'm using the OESD brand but any Heavy Duty Stabilizer would work. If you do any kind of embellishment with stitches, the stitch bible is wonderful!! And even if you don't, stitching each one out at least lets you know what stitches your machine will do!! :lol:

I use pelmet Vilene, it's stiff but good for sewing on.
It's also good when making bags as it adds stability.

My local quilt shop carries that brand and also Timtex, but I'd only tried the Timtex. Now that I know that the Vilene is a good product, I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for the information, Anne.

The pelmet Vilene doesn't have adhesive on it "I believe Timtex does" but I find it works ok.
Here in the UK it is so much cheaper than Timtex .

I work on the 830 and have found the half blanket stitch, with the same numbers as the 730, but I can't find the double blanket stitch on the 830! Does anyone know :?: You'd think I could find it, but... Thanks for any help, in advance! Diana

My 830 is still in the shop for maintenance, so I can't tell you what stitch it is, however, if you hit the "question" mark and any blanket stitch, you should get an explanation of which blanket stitch it is. Don't forget, the quilting related stitches are not in the decorative stitch menu. There is an icon on your screen for quilting-related stitches and that particular blanket stitch is probably there.

Found it! On the 830, the double blanket stitch is found in the Quilt Stitches' section, number 1330 and 1345. I still haven't found the stitch that Janet and Ricky recommend though, which doubles the running stitch but only has a single stitch for the 'jog'. Anyone know? Thanks!

Checked on my 830 and the other blanket stitches are in the decorative stitch section. 720 and 754

I think they are the half blanket stitch and one is the reverse. Half meaning two on the side and one bite into the fabric (hope that makes sense).
I think I will use those on the stars, but I believe Janet used the double for the letters on her show. 1330 on the 830.

I did the standard blanket stitch on my 2013 BOM. For this 2014 BOM I actually took Janet's advice and watched Ricky's show 804. He showed a much nicer stitch on the Bernina. Well unfortunately I don't own a high end Bernina, mine is a Husqvarna Topaz. So I got out my book and the stitch guide, and guess what? Mine has a fancier blanket stitch. It is stitch 2:20 and has default settings of length 3 and width 3. I like to use a length of 4 instead.

Got me thinking, what machines are the rest of you using? And if not Bernina, have you found a fancier blanket stitch? This is info we should share!

I took a CRAFTSY class STUPENDOUS STITCHES and they recommend doing a stitch diary... taking a plain fabric ( I used southern belle muslin) STITCH out every decorative stitch you have using different thickness of thread ie 40-50-60 wt ... RECORD the length and width and any adjustments. Save your diary in a binder in plastic sleeves.... THIS WAS ALSO RECOMMENDED BY SUE NICKLES & PAT HOLLY when I took their workshop.

Make notations of the type of stabilizer you use. I used a pigma pen to write my info out.
