    Applique

Hi Everyone! I have a question to ask. I'm sure someone has been in my situation at one time or another. I am sewing a Edyta Sitar flower quilt using the double blanket stitch to sew down applique. I am also using newspaper print-type paper as a stabilizer. The problem is, that when I remove paper, it is leaving bits in the stitches. How do I get this out easier than using tweezers? Pat

    Hi Pat,
I use an old Tracing Wheel from a Tracing Kit. (The wheel's serrated edge transfers pattern markings from patterns to fabric). The wheel works great shredding bits of paper close to stitching. I mostly use to remove paper piecing paper.

These days I use a "leave in" stabilizer like Ricky"s Stable Stuff ( there are other brands). Blanket stitch is the mischief maker here and
I just don't have time for tweezers ! Some times I trim away...some times not. :S

As long as I get most of the paper out, I simply don't worry about it, I generally hand wash my quilts when they are completed, and what little paper is left, just becomes part of the quilt
