What to do with a sitdown Longarm besides FMQ?
I am getting a new Bernina Q20 sit down longarm on 6 June, and having a training day on 8 June. I have lots of ideas running through my head about it. I'm so excited I just can't stop thinking about it. So I thought I'd throw out the question....
What can you do with a sit down longarm beyond the ordinary?
I am already planning on lots of FMQ...but I was thinking one could do a lot more with one...like Free motion embroidery....thread painting an entire picture with various thread weights and colors; making a white work quilt inspired by some really ancient quilts (like the ones recently highlighted on the daily blog)....and so forth.
Ideas? Anyone done some of these types of things on one?
Can you tell I'm excited? :silly: :
:side:  :cheer:

I have only had one class on the Sweet 16 (my current dream machine, if only we didn't have to pay for kids to go to college and such.....) but the teacher I had, Helen Godden out of Australia, quilts almost exclusively on the Sweet 16 sitdown machine (until recently).
She does couching/thread painting and all kinds of things; maybe peek at her website? Mostly she FMQs but the couching she does would give you some ideas. I'd imagine you could do much of what you're talking about, just depending on what feet are available, etc.
Have fun!

Thank you Heather! What wonderful art quilts she does. I get my new machine next week They set it up and provide a training day on Wednesday the 8th. i think couching is a really good possibility Because it uses the same feet as my 830, I have all the feet, including the couching foot. We'll see what I can do with it. :woohoo: :cheer:
