Piecing question
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lindsaysews/10502145024/
I'm going to try and make this quilt just by the picture only. I'm thinking I should foundation piece it. Any advise would be very welcome.Livermore, California, USA near San Francisco

This looks like a variation of a "string quilt", there are a ton of links online by googling.
They are a lot of fun and go together really quickly. The variations just by positioning blocks in various ways are quite intriguing.

I did something similar, but without the sashing which is lovely particularly with the triangles at the ends. It was from a craftsy class with Pepper Cory. We used an old phonebook to paper piece. Just cut the pages to the size you want (obviously it can't be any bigger than the width of the phone book, and I have found an ikea catalogue is good because it's square). I used the same fabric in the centre then put red on one side and pinks on the other. The thing about using the phonebook is that if you keep the papers on until you are assembling the whole thing then you won't have biases stretching on you too much. I think by putting the sashing strip on two sides like in the one you are thinking of doing that will illiminate the bias on two sides so you will only have two to worry about anyway. Good luck with it, it's a fun and quick process and very rewarding. Here's a photo of mine.

I've never made anything red in my life, but I LOVE Rita's quilt. I think it's the contrast of the light and dark squares that really sets something off in my mind.
Here's a picture of the one I did for my son. The center was just drawn on fabric foundations from a kind of long skinny triangle.
Andree, why wait  This is like the 15 minutes a day of play! I do remember thinking while I was making this that I wanted more variety of fabrics, but I'd cut so many strips, that I think I've got enough left over for another forty quilts
