Yes, and these two holes can also be used to pin the fabric.

Thanks. Addictive indeed. It is a nice project to carry. EPP not just for hexies but for small dresden plates as well! I used cards you find in magazines to make the templates...

This is how I learned to do them "back when" ! Except I don't use a double thread....tho'

Maybe with a double thread, the silk thread or Masterpiece would be reasonable because it would be knotted. I think I'll get my hole punch out for the boat, tomorrow

PS...I don't knot the basting thread and I leave it in ! :wink:

I don't sew through the paper either. I use the Sewline glue pen (and they have refills also) to hold the fabric around the shape (in my case for the Pies and Tarts quilt pattern, it's a slice of pie paper shape), then stitch through the fabric only to hold the shape. It's a breeze to do. Beverly

I use DecorBond to cut out my hexies. It has a fusible on the back and if you cut it to size, you can run it through your printer to get the hexie shape on it and then just cut them. I then iron them on the fabric. I do not turn under the edges, I don't baste. I just line them up and sew along the DecorBond. Work well and you can press the seam allowances any way you want. If you go to the show and tell for the mug rugs you will see an example of some that I did with hexies. see-quilts/show-and-tell-quilts/
I think that will get you to one of them. The mug rug is only 6"x8" so that gives you some perspective of the size of them.

And a terrific deviation from regular English Paper Piecing it is...hand piecing with a little twist !!

Ritzy, when you iron on the Decorbond to the fabric, you then cut it out and have a 1/4 inch border around the hexie/Decorbond shape? And then sew by machine or hand? Sounds like a neat trick!

You can sew by hand or by machine at that point. I did the mug rug by hand and then did machine quilting.
