    Quilters' Christmas Party

    Hello Everyone,
I run a small Quilting Group called Severnside Stitchers here in the UK. We have 25 members and they would like to have a quilt related Christmas party in early December after a successful one last year. I'm short on ideas and would appreciate some suggestions. I've chosen the theme of Scandinavian Christmas and am toying with a mini workshop and possibly a game or two plus food (any ideas here too).........................
We will be bringing our latest challenge along on the evening, this was to make a kitchen related item with a given fat quarter along with your favourite recipe (we hope to make these into a book later in the year with some of our projects). Help Please, Thank you, Julia2

One thing that my group is going to do at our Xmas party is a fat quarter exchange. We had to shop for 2 co-ordinating fat quarters but the fun part was to find a unique container to wrap them in. Everybody who brings a gift to exchange goes home with one. There is usually some sort of a game to facilitate the swapping and many such party games can be found on-line. Good luck with your party. Sounds like you have a few good ideas. Nancy in western NY

How about a Christmas signature block exchange? Everyone would make 25 (4.5" unfinished) signature blocks, using Christmas red and/or green prints, to exchange. It would be a great way to remember who all participated.

We've done a quiz in past based on our quilt groups history etc.

Pass the parcel is good everyone starts with one, a story about Santa is read out and every time right or left comes up you pass it in that direction.

A better one is giving a gift - the first person picks from the pile and the next one then picks one but they can exchange it with the first. The next person picks a present from the pile and can exchange it with one of the others and so on. Great way to fall out and offend people

a quiz game involving block names? Woman in the water is Lady in the Lake, fat birds in the air is Flying Geese, etc.

I really like that idea, Marion.

A homemade pincushion exchange is lots of fun. We gather each persons as they arrive and they all go in plain brown bags then after the refreshments we each pick a bag at random and the maker is revealed. Its a fun way to start your own collection of pin cushions and it takes the place of gift exchange.

Thank you all, some great ideas, we'll definitely have a game and I liked the quiz idea. The pincushion swap sounds fun too. We're going to have a great night. Julia2
