Going to a quilt retreat alone

I would like to go to a quilt retreat but I don't have friends who are interested. I would like your opinion on someone going and not knowing anyone. I have a fear that the ladies who attend all have good friends there and I will feel uncomfortable. Could you give me your opinions if you have gone by yourself or how you feel when you see someone at a retreat that appears alone. Thanks so much.

I went to one by myself and it was WONDERFUL! I'm very introverted, but everyone just took me in and made me feel like part of the family. Of course different groups can be different, but my experience with quilters is that you will much more likely have a wonderful time than not.

Maybe it would be an opportunity to meet a new friend that will go with you later.

I've gone to things alone and it's never been a problem. You never know, you may end up making a new best friend!

Oh yeah, if you go, please tell us about it and post pictures. We all love to join in vicariously when we can't be there in person!

I have gone to classes alone and it wasn't a problem. I went to a quilt shop while staying with my daughter when we lost Isabel. They invited me to join them for their quilt along--everyone brought their own project--they were very kind and made me fit right in.

I have gone to a class on my own too and it was great. If you don't want to go alone you could always see if anybody here in the TQS community would be interested in going. I want to hear all about it too, please.

All my close quilting buddies live a long way from here, so I often go to workshops (and also retreats) on my own. It has never been a problem. After all, we all have a lot in common (large fabric stash, at least 5 or six rotary cutters, a collection of sewing machines, heaven only knows how many quilting books, a constant craving for chocolate, .......)

The only thing I will insist on, and gladly pay the extra money for: A room I don't have to share with others. I like a little privacy, even though I'm quite extrovert by nature.

Going just a tiny bit off on a tangent: After getting divorced years ago, I found it quite amazing how many people just will not do anything or go anywhere on their own. They would rather stay at home. I'm not prepared to limit my horizon and the opportunities to experience new things because I'm on my own. So, I'll do anything I want to. I would draw the line at 'wing-walking' or cage fighting. Giggle......

Please, please, go on that retreat. You'll love it! And then tell us all about it. We are a very inquisitive lot.

Naughty, naughty, Lois! We may have to consider 10 lashes with a tape measure as an appropriate punishment for going off topic.

I say go for it. I have gone alone and had a good time even though I am not very outgoing! A common interest in quilting is a given. I am with Lorchen that I would definitely pay extra to have my own room.
