Oh my, BJ, I love your Storm at Sea coloration. Agreeing with Connie, the undulation is very cool. Carol Doak also has a Craftsy class that shows many tips that she uses for perfect points. I think getting sections to match up is a challenge and she shows how. I think I also want to leave additional fabric around the outside edges for a bit of squaring up. (just did a Great Blue Heron, not too hard, but a bit wonky and had to "fix" it

I should call it a great purple heron, for my friend's daughter's going away to college quilt. Yep, it's wonky, but the outside is square. Squaring up blocks is NoT my forte, nor is trying to figure out how to get a border a specific size to complete the over all block. Drove me more insane than I already am  but it worked out in the end.
The Heron block is in EQ7.

BJ really like your Storm at Sea coloration too. I'm just finishing a Winding Ways top with lots of points to match up. I picked up a hint recently from Alex re matching points placing a pin thru the point of the apposing block, then pinning the blocks together on either side of the pin. As you sew along pull the pin sticking thru the points.
Susan like your paper pieced Great Purple Heron a lot!

Connie, EQ is a piece of cake. Really it is...much more intuitive than some programs and oh such a handy resource. You can learn much of it in just an hour or two's time.Originally posted by gynconnieSusan, love your GBH! Glad to know it's from EQ7, since that means I have access to it. Of course that means I would actually have to KNOW how to use my EQ program. Learning EQ is just another thing on my need-to-get-around-to-it list...
