Quilt University is Closing - rats

I've enclosed the latest newsletter that I just received. This makes me sad. I've learned so much from Quilt U classes.

    Quilt University June Newsletter

    May 31, 2013

Thanks to everyone for who wrote with remembrances of their experiences over the years at Quilt U. Carol and I had a wonderful time doing it. I also want to thank our teachers for their tremendous cooperation during this transition.

    THE FINAL LAP
As I announced last month, Quilt U will close at the end of 2013. June marks the beginning of our June-October Semester, one final pass through our available classes. This is your last opportunity to catch those classes that you've been putting off. Not all teachers are available. For example, because of extensive foreign travel, Dena Crain will not be teaching again until August.

Please do not recommend Quilt U to your friends. It's too difficult to explain to newcomers what Quilt U is trying to accomplish as we shut down. The option to register for our free sample class has been discontinued.

Many of you over the years have signed up for our newsletter just to read Carol's entertaining commentaries. Since Carol died, more and more of you have been unsubscribing. To save you from having to fill out the unsubscribe form, I will unsubscribe anyone who has not purchased a class at Quilt U. Thank you for your cooperation

In preparation for the closing of Quilt U, the current and former students who regularly hang out in the Student Commons have set up a Yahoo Group for Quilt University Alumni. "This is a group to keep Quilt U students and teachers in contact with each other. Students can ask questions on quilting and share photos of their QU projects. Teachers can add details of where they teach or present their classes. We have a folder set up for finished projects too and hope to run some shows and/or competitions later on. Everyone is invited."

Yes, you're right. I was always looking forward to Carol's newsletter. The classes I took last year were great.

A lot of the teachers at QuiltU have others venues to teach. It just isn't so convenient!

I think CRAFTSY classes with their visual format is the newest way to take classes.... many of the newbie quilters of the tech generation take the classes there... they do highlight the MODERN Quilts but they have a lot of traditional classes and teachers being introduced. This is the wave of the future.... I love the visual format and hope they can release the videos to DVDs someday.
