    The Slice

I recently came across a cutting tool called "the slice fabrique". Quite an expensive little machine but I was wondering if anyone on the site used one in their quilt making? How do you find it for cutting fabrics? :?:

Hmmmm...looks like a computerized AccuQuilt type system! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw00YjDvPNg

I had the sound off, but it looks really cool. I wonder if you can digitize your own shapes. That would be pretty useful.

Interesting looking video - thanks Margo. Brilliant if you are into raw edge fusible appllique, I have no idea about the price, but it looks a bit like a sort of tool it would be nice to hire for a week/weekend to get all the cutting done for a top if you didn't want to buy it.

It looks interesting but it is very expensive! And I wonder how many quilts worth you would get before the blade would need to be replaced etc? Here are some reviews of it that I found on this website.

Looks like a bit of a 'marmite' tool - you either love it or hate it.

yeah, you buy the tool, like a cricut, and then buy disks for different shapes. It doesn't look programmable. For that, I think folks are getting the Silhouette Cameo. I think we can cut shapes faster by hand. Did you notice, you have to buy their backing, also.

Marmite is a spread made from a yeast extract (a by-product of beer brewing). The Australian version is 'Vegemite'. In Switzerland we have something similar called 'cenovis'. They are all very distinctive, very different from any other toast spread and one either loves or loathes them.
To me they are definitely an acquired taste. But having had an Aussie boyfriend and his friends & family visiting, the stuff has been in my fridge repeatedly, but I havn't acquired the taste yet

Lotti is right on all counts - even wikipedia agrees with her  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmite
and I am right with you Lotti, I am yet to aquire the taste for it too although it can make a good ingredient for boosting flavour in a stew or mince dish.
You know how it is, you fall for the latest must have gadget, but when you finally buy your own, you use it maybe once (use some good oldfashioned 'battlefield language' that your mother doesn't approve of when anybody is listening at it) and then put it away in the cupboard never to be used again

Given a choice between this gadget and marmite I would have marmite any day. Actually I love marmite either on bread, toast or as a hot drink. It's full of B vitamins and so it's great for keeping you calm.

I too love Marmite on toast but it must have butter on the toast first." yummy"
I gave some to my son when he was young and I don't think he has ever forgiven me and he's 47 now
I think the Slice looks interesting but it would just end up stuck in a drawer with all the other unused stuff

i wonder if you can add some shapes to the slicy.
if you compare it with accuquilt i think you must calculate the blade tamplate that you have to buy with accuquilt as well.
both of the products sounds far too expensive.
but if you are addicted to applique...that is a must 8)
