Lois, your quilt is beautiful! Did you machine piece this? The quilting is perfect. It looks so cuddly. Wool batting is the best!

All butterfly seams ala Gyleen Fitzgerald. After that show I just started playing with my stash and this is what happened.

Backed it afterward. actually used a pale yellow solid. I was being brave, but you know what they say about "fools rushing in...." It's ok but there is plenty of room for improvement with the FMQ skills. I wanted the colored threads to show up. After the fact, not so sure. It's great if you don't look too close.

Lois, love your GMFG quilt. Very bright and cheery, great for cuddlin! Started one about 20 yrs ago, putzed with it on and off, finally donated it to my guild. After seeing yours, I regret not finishing it. Oh, well, at least I'll have yours to drool over. Great Job.

Yes, it is great how animals can figure out what is theirs so matter of factory. They certainly know how to find the best spots.

I am curious - has anyone made quilted hot pads before? I was going to try it. It says use 2 layers of batting and 1 of insul bright. What kind of batting did you use? Should it be cotton? Didn't know if polyester could withstand the heat. I know I want something that is thin.

Thanks for any suggestions. I have about 6 people in my department at work and it gets expensive getting them all something at Christmas so I thought I could start now and make hot pads for them.

When I do hot pads I use all cotton or 80-20 scraps ..prob'ly bamboo and wool would work, too
I've not used them...what fun project !& "chenille" ones wouldn't need filling at all !! I'm sure
you can get instruction on the web !

I've made them with just the heat-resistent batting. That makes them thick enough.

Well, almost half the year is finished already, and here is my second finished project. :roll: It was made with my sister when I visited her last month. We limited ourselves to just using scraps from her stash, so even the backing had to be pieced. It will go to a new mother in her church.
I quilted it when I got home on my HandiQuilter with a ProStitcher (computer). I used a digital pantograph called Modern Maze: http://www.digitechpatterns.com/product_p/kwpanto11.htm

Susan, the quilt measured about 40" x 53".

This panto is pretty dense and even at the top speed it was very slow, so it took me about 45 minutes to stitch each 10" x 53" pass.
