Looking at the pictures in close up, the straight lines - which were done with my walking foot the stitch size is fine, but on the leaves & flowers there are on average about 3-4 stitches to the length of one done with the walking foot. Still it was a great thread choice, you can barely see it  The back was a great choice by Little Miss too 8)Originally posted by RenataFMQ'ing is hard but your stitches look really good Rosemary! From where I see them, they are very regular in size and that makes them good in my book!
What it does prove is that I need a ton of practise before I get anywhere near Caught Red Handed if I am going to be entering it for competition (or sort out designs that I can do without fmqing  )

Rosemary, I did some FMQ yesterday and I'm a right clutch at FMQ but I tried the warm-up Ricky suggests in his video that's for free at the moment here at TQS. He sews a straight line using an ordinary foot, then puts on his darning foot and lowers the feed-dogs, stitches next to the first line of stitches. I think it helped me to warm-up like that and I had already stitched an outline with feed-dogs up so I had that next to the stitching I did all the time. No harm done in trying to see if it can help you tooOriginally posted by PosyPLooking at the pictures in close up, the straight lines - which were done with my walking foot the stitch size is fine, but on the leaves & flowers there are on average about 3-4 stitches to the length of one done with the walking foot. Rosemary, you made me laugh at your comment: "(my hands were moving so slowly that I needed the machine to be running just above stalling speed)." I have felt the same way more times than I can count. Your comment made me remember a movie that I recently saw. A young man was (lovingly) reprimanding his Grandma (played by Dolly Parton) because she was driving so slowly and people that were walking on the side of the road were keeping up with her pretty good. He said (and I'm paraphrasing because I can't remember exactly) -- if you go any slower, we will be going back in time. I thought it was really funny.

I am going to finish the Pretty in Pink Pineapples quilt that I started for my great niece. I need to add one more border then off to the LQS to find an appropriate backing. I think I am going to quilt it on my Bernina. My niece is only 5 and I don't think she will be too critical and I will get some practice with something larger than a baby quilt. The other thing I am going to finish in 2013 is my dissertation for my PhD in nursing. It is really weighing me down and making me feel guilty for wanting to sew, therefore it must be completed! Pray for my perserverance!
