What will you finish first in 2013?

I think I must really be nuts. I have been working on my (giant) 2013 plans, which you can see here at my personal blog http://blog.bjfabricartist.com/2012/...ilt-plans.aspx The fun thing is that I can do all of this at my own pace, so if I don't get them done that's ok...I will just move them to another time. I really have only 2 quilts with hard deadlines...the blue print quilt for Teri's and my Architectural Challenge and the Hoffman Challenge quilt.

I think my first quilt will be the Blue Print of a 1920s house, although I will work on several during the first few months, so it's kind of fun for me to see which quilt insists on being finished first.

They DO seem to have their own personality, don't they? So what do you think you'll finish first quilt wise in 2013?

I'm looking forward to seeing your quilts progress.

I'm going to finish a couple of portrait quilts . One of my eldest son I've not started and one of my friends grandson that is going quite well, restoring my confidence after abandoning one before Christmas. I'll also be doing the architecture inspired challenge and another challenge my friend has set me for a small quilt including geOmetric and beech trees but no orange :?

    Anyone else?

My guild is doing a series of small (12-13") quilts all using the same blue fabric for water, and the theme is "Along the St. Lawrence River". Everyone who participates will make a pictorial art quilt representing some aspect of the river - our experience with it, memories of it, what it means to us, inspirations from it etc. The blue must run from one side of the quilt to the other, so when joined, it will show one river running through all the various quilts and they will eventually all be joined as a fresco - all together and presented in our provincial quilt show. I took a kit for it in September and it has to be handed in by March for the next process. Actually, it sounds a wee bit like the Chinese Whispers Project that some here on TQS are doing. It was inspired by "Along the Rogue", a homage to the Rogue River by Rogue Art Quilters of S. Oregon. That's first on my list. Many other projects also. I started to make a list of them yesterday. Haven't finished the list yet!

First I will finish two small gift projects for birthdays in January.
After that I have 3 quilts that I wanted to finish this year but never came to because a lot of things got in the way. I really don't like UFO's and normally don't have them, so for me it's important to work on them. Number one is the The Quilter's Palette Quilt designed by Annie Smith. This one I made while teaching it to a small group (with Annie's permission), number two will be a top, that I made in a Kaffe Fassett class and number three is the 2011 BOM, Ruffled Roses.

I am just going to take it one day at the time. I ave way to any WIP's (works in progress) and UFO's . I will be working on quilting my Dear Jane quilt,
          doing my spool blocks,
quilting a two fabric Hawaiian wall hanging,
another wall hanging that I need to finish hand quilting,
And so it goes, also have projects that want to get started. See how the year starts and goes on.

            Well....

I am finishing up the binding on the reels quilt.
Then I have a big log cabin with applique border pinned, ready to quilt. It's going to be ditch quilted, which is why I haven't started it yet
I bought a kit last Christmas for my mom, with paper pieced hexagons for the border. She hasn't worked on it, but I have- am sewing those hexagons together. The rest of it is easy sewing. Then that will be quilted.
I took a class on sashiko with Sylvia Pippen (she makes gorgeous quilts) and am still working on the first of two small panels for that.
Oh yes, I will do some version of the 2013 BOM.
That will just about do it for my UFO's. Then I can move on. They are hanging over my head- I want to finish them but there were so many this year!
Oh, and I am making a shirt from a Craftsy class on line. I like the way it's turning out but the color is wrong for me.

As usual, I have a long list of things I want to and have to finish this year.

I have an old tablecloth of my mom's that I want to quilt up for her for Mother's Day. This will probably be my highest priority for now. I can't actually start it until I get some fabric to go behind it (it has cut-out areas) and I ordered some possibilities today. But I can start designing the quilting now.

I also started piecing my niece's graduation quilt yesterday. Her graduation isn't until May 2014, but I need to finish this by Oct if I want to put it in our local guild's show.

Like BJ, I'm planning on making a Hoffman Challenge quilt. I think those are due in June or July so I have a little time for that one.

I should get the Chinese Whispers quilt around March or so, so that will be my highest priority then.

I also want to get back to finishing the design of my angel wholecloth quilt. If it turns out nice, I'd like to see if I can get it into a couple of shows before giving it to my mom.

I'm thinking about making a small wholecloth quilt for my sister using a stencil that she liked. She made me my favorite peach upside-down coffee cake to take home after Christmas, so I'd like to include this quilt when I mail back her container. So this will probably be the first quilt that I will actually finish this year. Of course, I really need to start it first!

              This is just a sampling....

It was going to be my DB's quilt but I left the binding fabric and thread at my home in the country and it will be a few days before I can get it. I did find some substitute thread that I'm using for assembly. 3 more long seams and the top will be finished. Since it's a rag quilt it is already quilted. But there is still all of that clipping to do.

My DSIL's quilt is next on my list. It just needs binding, which is already prepared, and a label.

Then I hope to get back to my 2011 Christmas BOM. I may go to a quilt retreat at the end of January and work on it there.

I'm really trying hard not to start any new projects until I've put a dent in my WIP's. Also I will be picking up my longarm quilting machine in the next week or so and expect a lot of my free time will be spent learning how to use it.

Annis, what machine are you getting? You just kind of slipped that last line in there, I almost didn't notice!

Hoe exciting Annis then you'll be able to whizz through the quilting

                      Happy New Year, everyone!

My list of WIPs is still too long, but my main goal this year is to finish my Roseville Pottery BOM quilt I started about a decade ago. I am adding the finishing touches to the center square. Then I can finish assembling the top, do the hand embroidery accents, layer and quilt it. After that I want to finish up the 2010 BOMs Hugs and Kisses and Star Crazy. The tops are now done so they need to be layered and quilted. I need to go back and see how others quilted them to give me some motivation and inspiration.

I don't get the Chinese Whisper project until 2014, so I will tackle the 20 some other UFOs on my list before then.

Now that I think about it, though, I started a Seasons series and still haven't completed Spring. So maybe that will come in sooner than later...hopefully before Spring is over.

I have five new ones on my list which include a Double Wedding Ring for my daughter's marriage in August, a new quilt for my bed and the 2013 BOM.

I'm just finishing my on-the-go project 2012, some of you might remember the black and white swirls I've been working on... Hope to post final pictures tomorrow or the day after...
Just finished Catzelou's quilt, he took possession of it today

When I get home on Friday I hope to pick up Bernie from his Christmas stopover in the bernina shop and finish my brothers birthday quilt

Next on the list are three cat-quilts, one for Catzelou's newly adopted sister Lady, then two for my friend Doris' new girls, Molly & Zelda... The fabric is at home and waiting...

And then, there are a whole list of projects in process or marinating in my brain!

But first, to enjoy a few days in the mountains:

                          All the very best
