How do you store your finished quilts?

Like eveyone here, I have a lot of quilts that are done and I just don't have the space to hang any more quilts. How are you storing your finished quilts? Most of mine are on the spare bed (my husband is sure the bed will soon collaspe) and need to be folded everytime someone comes to visit. I found that if I hang them they still get creases. I am not sure where I would put them if I rolled them, but I have been thinking about doing that. What are you doing?

If they are small enough I use skirt hangers and hang them on the back of a door. I re-fold them in a different direction every couple of weeks. If they are bigger I fold and re-fold them every few weeks and store them in the hotpress. I would like to roll my quilts too but I would not have anywhere to put the rolls.

I have a pole about 3ft long between the bookcase and the wall and they hang over it or on trouser hangers like Rita. Smaller ones are in a wardrobe drawer :?

Why don't you get a spare bed with sliding door space underneath then you could store them under there rolled. Or are you like me and under the bed is batting, photos, games, cats ..........................

The easiest solution if you run out of space for storing your quilts: Give some away!

Actually that's what I do with most of my quilts. But there are a few now that I just can't part with. My Apprentice Piece for one and the couple I entered in the competition here earlier this year. I will part with them eventually but just not yet.

Rita, I have some quilts that will always stay with me, and they are not my best ones, but the ones I'm really emotionally attached to.

So far all my finished quilts are intended for the guest beds, and I still have a few to go before that quota is filled, but I have a dread of filling up the house with practice samples... so I don't do those, if I can help it

While living in India I bought lovely old sari racks and use these to store and display lots of quilts for these wooden racks are large, have many bars at different heights, and plenty of room for several quilts. They look a bit like quilt/towel racks but are more elaborate and larger.

Jeanine, would you post a photo or two. I think I get the idea but seen a photo would help to see if my FIL can make something similar. Thank you

                    Limbania,
Sure will but later this week since I'll have to take photos and will only get back up to studio on Thursday or Friday - I teach and this is the first full week of school.
                    cheers
