I'll join in late, but completely enthusiastic. TQS has really become a big part of my life. I think that our first exchange with the HST's deepened and strengthened us as a community. I seem to remember hearing on one of the episodes, Ricky saying something about being surprised and happy that it had gone from an internet TV show to a close-knit group with a life of its own. I get so much info and support from TQS, can't imagine not being here!

OK, you TQS-aholics-- Probably the wrong place to post this, but I am interested in getting photo fabric a'la Brian Haggard. Blumenthal Lansing sells rolls of both 100% cotton poplin and 100% cotton twill. Does anyone have any experience with either of these or an opinion about which to use? I use 8.5 x 11" sheets of photo fabric to make memory books for the little ones in my family every year. The sheets are OK, but fabric rolls make more sense to me. I just don't know whether to twill or poplin!
                    Thanks from yet another TQS-aholic!

I haven't used either, but am wondering...isn't poplin a smoother finish? with twill having some texture?
Depending on image (faces, for example) I would want smooth.
                        Will check into it.

Charae, I just received 1 roll of each and the silk also, haven't used any of them yet. The poplin is smoother and thinner. The twill is thicker and with a textured surface, looks like the threads run on the diagonal. It'll depend on what finish you're looking for. Hope this helps

I don't know the exact product but I recently used the fine 240 thread count from EQ printables. I guess that is very much like poplin. It gives a fine photo, but in my case I had a surprise. I had made a white/cream rose in four sections and when I sewed them together the white seam allowance was clearly shining through. I had to put black fabric under each section to get rid of it, but it worked. Another problem occurred when I came to the quilting. I used a piece of poplin for the backing and promised myself to never do that again. The fabrics are so tight, that the needle has to knock itself through the fibers. I guess I tried 5 different needles before I could accept the backside and it's not perfect.
Well, I guess I have to show you the quilt now, so here it is

So beautiful Norma - thank goodness it worked out in the end.

As for what to use Charae, I have used the Colorfast Printable paper and that was good but it is a very tight weave and the machine needle had to work hard to get through it. I have also used commercial cotton which I ironed onto freezer paper and that is much easier to quilt afterwards. But without the Bubblejet stuff it would not be permanent I guess. Sorry, I am absolutely no use to you here. But sure it's nice to have a chat anyway.
