How do you hang your quilts?

I use an idea that I saw in Houston. I put Command Adhesive strips on the wall, let them sit however long the package says. Stick a metal square on the strip. Put a metal strip in the quilt (you can get them at the hardware store, and luckily, Greg has the correct tools to cut them). Then you use a rare earth magnet to stick the metal strip to the metal square. Use as many as you need depending on the weight of the quilt.

I found some round magnets that I glued to the back on some small flat metal plates. Then I attached the command strips to the back of the plate. Then I stuck them on the wall where I wanted my quilt to hang. I used a flat curtain rod extension through the quilt sleeve. It just sticks up there very nicely. Just be sure the magnets support the weight of the quilt. You might have to use more than two magnet plates if the quilt is heavy. There are many sizes and grades of magnets so check them out on line. I made these as a test to see how it would work and so far, it seems good. There are some of these type hangers at the quilt shows but they are very expensive. I just made my own! I found these supplies at the local Home Depot. Good luck.

Thank you all for your advice, I bought the "Takker" but it doesn't work on my walls as they are brick walls, however I will try it on the plaster walls.
I like the idea of the "Comand hooks" and magnets on a metal rod of some kind . I think "Command hooks" are brilliant anyway.
Thanks
Anne

Hi Rita,
It isn't a problem as I am sure it will come in useful elsewhere and I didn't think it was that expensive.
My daughter also bought one and has hung quite a few pictures up in her house (she has been in the house for 18 months) so she was pleased to have something that was so easy to use.
My house has had a lot of additions so a lot of outside walls( does that make sense?)
What is the weather like in Ireland? it's freezing here in Surrey.

Hi Anne, Well I am glad that it wasn't a complete waste of money. I love my takker and my son particularly loves it. His latest thing was to add an extension cable to the wall beside his bed so that he could plug in all his gadgets! It is hideous looking but he's happy. The weather here is very April showery and very cold. I think we are finding the cold so much worse because of the summer we had a couple of weeks ago. But in between the showers the sun is splitting the stones but the wind is strong and very cold.

Rita, sorry I haven't kept you up to date, the Takker is great, I managed to hang my thread rack up,it's been folded up by the side of a cupboard for about 2 years.
The Takker was so easy to use and and I plan to my cross stitch pictures up just as soon as I have framed them.
Thanks again
Anne
