Question to PONDER ( SEW MAMA SEW)
I recently came across SEW MAMA SEW blog with an interview of a sewist. I found the questions asked thought provoking and thought there are some you are willing to post YOUR answer to. I am working on answering them for myself and I will post what I think after I finish them. ( Yes I plan to post my answers on my blog.)
Answer one or two of the questions just copy and paste them into your own thread.

Sew,Mama,Sew!:
Looking back at the 2011 sewing scene, what trends stand out in your mind?
>>> I assume this is a trend, it is something I became aware of this past year, THE MODERN QUILT GUILD. http://themodernquiltguild.com/ I started following the main guild and it subsidiaries off and on through the year. Michigan has three modern guilds one in Ann Arbor, Brighton and Traverse City. From what I can tell these guilds are made up of YOUNGER women who work in a more contemporary , simpler style. They use brighter colors and modern design, their color palette is different. Rarely the browns/ tans or repo fabrics. I think they use tertiary, complementary colors on the color wheel more than previous quilters. Solid fabrics are used along with their patterned fabrics. Patterns selected are more graphic / geometric in nature using the play of color as a statement.
Of course this is my interpretation of the movement…

What were some of your favorite things?
Quilt retreats, on line sew-ins.. The few time I get ME TIME. .. I connect with other quilters as I take the time to sew, sew, sew.
Sew, Mama, Sew!:
What did you make that you’re most proud of?
My last quilt was technically my best quilt… it lies flat, no wavering of the borders. The long armer and I worked together to design the quilting and it was stunning. Visually it is a stopper, in that, when on display at the local quilt show I got a lot of kudos and questions. People seemed to enjoy the quilt.
Sew, Mama, Sew!:
What was your favorite fabric collection or print?
NO particular fabric line. I love tone on tones, color washed fabrics, mottled, batiks…. I do not follow designers or brands and I think it is kind of silly to do so. I also do not buy a lot of pre cuts… I have too big of a stash to go that route.
Sew, Mama, Sew!:
Do you have a favorite sewing book or pattern from the past year to recommend?
I buy technique books and then play with the new technique and then apply them to a future project. I posted hundred of book reviews in GOOD READS . I try to be totally open about my opinions. I usually listed what you can find in the book.

GOOD READS
Sew,Mama,Sew!:
What sewn projects have you seen this year that you absolutely love?
I am loving the Modern QUILTS and have been buying several books by Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle, my favorites. I also bought the MODERN BLOCK book. I am currently following the 100 day quilt challenge. I enjoy seeing the new quilts / patterns being displayed.
Sew,Mama,Sew!:
Are there any trends you’re over and done with?
I do not think there is a quilt pattern / quilt that I do not love. I do have problem with UGLY QUILTS / Charity quilts just thrown together with not thought to rhyme or reason.
I am so over the jelly race quilt (1600 square inch quilts) I have seen some that are well planned and visually beautiful, others fall into the UGLY quilt category because no thought was put into the fabrics that made up the quilt.

What are your thoughts about social media?
How is it going for you? What do you love or hate?
Well here is the start of what I am thinking / planning Now it is your turn ....
Sew, Mama, Sew!:
What do you predict for 2012?…….

Sew, Mama, Sew!:
Are there any bloggers, authors or designers who you think will be rising stars in 2012?
Leah Day's Star will continue to rise as she is very inventive in her projects and designs. She is hosting a FMQ sew -along, right now, that will be helpful for those learning how to FMQ. I LOVED HER DVDs.
