    Lost Quilt!

My quilt, Kaaterskill, was shipped on February 16, 2011 from Golden, Colorado via UPS 2nd Day Air. It was never seen again.

I don't know what happened to it - the shipper, Quilters Newsletter, says it was picked up by UPS, but the box was never scanned. UPS did a thorough search of their trucks and warehouses without finding any evidence of the quilt.

I can't believe that it disappeared forever, so I'm publicizing its disappearance in the hope that someone, somewhere, knows where it is.

It is currently featured on the cover of the June/July issue of Quilters Newsletter. It is also registered on Maria Elkins' Lost Quilts website: http://lostquilt.com/index.php/2011/...g/kaaterskill/

Thank you for any help you can give me!

Janet, my heart goes out to you.

Several years ago I hand-delivered three quilts to a collection point for a large quilt show. They 'vanished'. The people working for the show organizers would not accept 'it's not here', and insisted that everything was re-checked. The quilts were found - undamaged in their unopened boxes - in an area where they should have never been taken. So, don't give up. Keep making a lot of noise and get on the nerves of everybody involved so that they have another look until they find it.

    Good luck!!

Dear Janet, I am so sorry to hear that your beautiful quilt has gone missing. I do hope that it eventually finds its way back to you.

Janet I am terribly sad for you and do hope it is found, but I do agree with Lorchen you need to make a lot of noise as it would not be the first time something is found in the wrong spot.....good luck......

I am so sorry Janet! Your quilt is gorgeous and you have put a LOT of hours in making it so I know you must be devestated. Hope it returns safely to you soon!

Thank you, everyone. I'm grateful for your support!

QN says they searched their offices thoroughly, and that they remember the package being picked up. If it is in the UPS system, they will auction it off as part of a whole trailer of lost goods, and whoever buys that trailer will sell it ... how, I don't know. I have asked quilt appraisers that I know, and at least one collector who regularly looks at Etsy and eBay, to keep an eye out for it in case it shows up.

Janet, can you find out what time scale they are talking about? Will they sell off these containers after 3 months, after 6 months, or when? Does this happen in the region where the quilt was posted? There may be a way of having somebody from UPS check any relevant container. You'll have to keep asking them and getting on their nerves until they check properly. Has QN told you how the quilt was packaged (size, type of box, colour, type of tape used, anything else distinctive). Do we have any TQS members who live close to the depot where your quilt shopuld have gone to and who'd be willing to go there in person on your behalf? Have you considered getting in touch with the local paper (or tv station) in the area where the quilt went missing? Some journalist may be willing to do an article about it and that might get you some more action from UPS.

I can only repeat: Good luck!!

There is also a new online quilting magazine called Quiltposium which will have a place to list "lost" quilts. Check that out, too.

Sorry for your loss (well, hope it isn't a loss!)
