Lorchen, you are simply a HOOT!

I don't have a microwave which many find strange. But how do you get along without a dryer. Yes, I sometimes 'hang' things to dry (inside or outside) but everything dries so stiff. Unless it's a synthetic fabric like rayon etc.

I know I'm either going to learn something here or be transported back to the coke bottle sprinkling clothes for ironing and the bag of damp clothes waiting to be ironed on a shelf in the refrigerator!

Been there, done that!! And ironed cotton sheets on a "mangle". Especially fun in the summertime, with no air conditioning!

We lived in a housing project and my mother had a wringer washer when I was small. We had a drying rack that hung over the bathtub-she could raise and lower it as needed. She's a retired nurse and every time I use spray starch, I'm right back in our kitchen watching her iron her nursing caps that had been kept damp in the fridge. My father took his shirts and our sheets to a laundry down the street.
        Thanks for the memories

Actually I am not devoid a dryer. I live in a 55 plus complex which has a communal coin operated washer and dryer on each floor. In order to not use dryer sheets I take a bit of time to sort my wet laundry. I put things that build up static quickly on hangers and hang these on the shower curtain rod. The heavier items go in the dryer but without the dryer sheets they dry much more quickly so I just need to run the dryer less time. This way I can dry two loads of laundry with one run of dryer time. I'm saving electricity plus the cost of dryer sheets. My biggest bonus is that I don't have the residual smell, even from no scented dryer sheets, that may attack mu senses and give me headaches.
