Need Ideas/ blocks for charity quilting
We are sewing quilts for a local children agency / orphanage. We have been " GIFTED" with 6-1/2 inch blocks from a donation. We have also cut more blocks from our own stashes. We are trying to make twin size quilts to give each child for Christmas this year. Each of us have taken on the task of making two quilts. We will need about 40 plus quilts. I have been making disappearing NINE patches. Some of the ladies are just sewing the patches together trying to make a light block / dark block pattern.
The ladies are willing to do some simple patterns but we are running out of ideas. If you know of some simple sewing patterns please post the links/ directions her as I will be following this thread. Pictures would help.

I like to sew trios of 2.5- by 6.5-inch strips together, then alternate the resulting blocks with 6.5-inch squares. You can get some pretty interesting quilts if you use the right fabrics and turn the pieced blocks in various ways. Here's one of my favourites:
This is actually an EQ image with my real fabrics scanned in. It looks pretty darned close to the real thing!

Like Editor Anne, I was going to suggest the Warm Wishes pattern, which was first introduced in 2000 for the Project Linus Make-a-Blanket Day. I used this pattern to make a charity quilt for a victim of Hurricane Katrina. I like it because, depending on your fabric placements, it can look a lot more complex than it is. Here's where you can download the FREE pattern--> http://www.quiltmaker.com/patterns/d...html?idx=5185_
Here's a photo of the quilt I made:

My suggestion is:

I used directional fabric and two colorways for the side strips so I had two sets of blocks. It still was simple and went together in a snap.

Another easy quilt block pattern that you may want to consider is Children's Delight, which would make great use of your donated blocks. It's basically an uneven nine-patch with sashing and a cornerstone to one side. Here's a photo of a single block
and here's a photo of a quilt that I made using this blockClick on the photo to get a more detailed view of the quilt.

These are all pretty pattern but right now we are trying to work with 6 inch squares .... We inherited a 18 gallon bin full of those pre-cut fabrics. Mostly dark repro / civil war/ calicos/ Thimbleberries and florals. WE have very little yardage at this time to work with at this time. We are having a FUNDRAISING breakfast to raise money for batting, backing, more fabrics, etc next month when we can get the hall (for free) After that we will be in fat city. I have also put a call out fabric at the two guilds near by so we are hoping to get some finished tops and or fabrics that way too.
KEEP THE IDEAS COMING.
I WILL BE POSTING PICTURES ON MY BLOG AS I MAKE THE QUILT (s).
I DID MAKE A QUILT TOP IN THREE HOURS OUT OF SOME FABRIC IN MY STASH and I hope to make some more. I will be posting the pictures on my blog Monday (after Mother's Day.)

Here is a picture of my three hour quilt. It is a copy of the comforter's my mom use to make in the 60s and 70s. It is pretty simple and very dependent upon the fabric for inpact. If we have more pretty yardage I plan to make more of these. I gave instructions for this little quilt on my blog. I think it will be enjoyed by a kid.
